I was reading one of my African books yesterday which described a honey bird that would lead people to a bee hive, wait patiently by and then feed on the stunded bees and grubs once everyone had left the area.

I was curious if any of you have experienced any such bird and the activity once reaching the hive while hunting?

Graybird,

We had a honey guide actually lead us to a bee's nest while hunting in the Musalunga area of Zambia. The honey was like nothing I had ever tasted before. Excellent!

Regards,

Mark

YEs we have them on Dendro Park ranch Zambia near kafue park. They are good guard dogs to alert one when there are humans around and about in the bush. Early warning signal when poachers are lurking (-:

For centuries the Honey Guide has been known to lead humans to Honey. The legend says that the Honey Bird will lead you to honey with the expectation that you will give him some after you harvest it. If you do not give the bird some of the honey, the next time he will lead you to the lions.
