Thierry guided a hunter to a 50 +/- bull back in May or June. I believe Thierry is there now for two (?) elephant hunts. Larry will be there with Collin VL in October.

Good to see Jim Hall still at it... he still using his "favorite" Remington .416?

Simply awesome, brother.

BTW, call me crazy, but if I were to hazard a wild guess, is the left tusk above sporting a bush style patch-up job, with mud as a plaster of sorts? To this untrained eye, it looks like it. As one who has suffered some pretty serious dental reconstruction, I must say that I wish some of my temporary fixes looked that good... Smiler

That gash in the ear, too? Hmm. Deflected bullet after clipping tusk, maybe?

I was wondering the same thing.

Ivan, in regards to the hunter of that elephant, it looks like he has one of those illuminated red-dot pseudo-iron sight things instead of the the traditional iron sight. Any chance you can rate it's effectiveness in the field compared to a scope and iron sights. Boddington mentions a scope is helpful in buffalo hunting, so I'm interested to hear how this compares.

Thanks.

sevens ,
its a trijicon rmr , as far as compared to scope ort iron sights -

it doesnt give you the "tunnell vision a scope does but then it also does not give a very fine point of aim , its designed to be fast and used close - the dot is 6 MOA (i think if memory serves )

its a lot better than iron sights as it certainly enables one to reach out a lot further than with iron sights and for anyone not used to iron sights this is the way forward -

that way the whole elephant can go to the villages instead of having lots and lots of people come to cut the animal - in a lot of areas the disturbance from that can result in a complete stop in elephant movement for several weeks , this way the disturbance is minimal -
