Danny, Send one of you 9.3's to Walt Sherman and let him put a brake on it. It will recoil less than a 308, maybe a 243. The one on my 375 has the same profile as the barrel. As for those ph's who don't want your money, there are plenty that will be glad to take it including our own Ray Atkinson. There comes a time when it time to realize that we aren't getting better, we are just getting older! Good luck on planning your hunt. Ku-dude

Danny My vote would be for the .375H&H for one rifle only. I began going to Africa with 3 rifles - a .308W; .375H&H and a .465 double. After my first trip I rebarreled and restocked [synthetic] the .375 and because it is now so accurate [5 shots in 3/4" at 100yds with 300gr at 2650fps]I have no need for a light rifle. With this accuracy I can confidently take neck shots on smaller "eating" game such as Impala out to around 120yds minimum. The advantage of this is that you will not get caught out hunting with a light rifle when some bigger game crops up. This happened to me on my first trip filling our quota of Impala with the .308W miles from our vehicle when I stumbled on a lion kill complete with a couple of the successful hunters! Now a .308W sure will kill a lion but it did feel mighty insignificant when that tail was twitching about 20 yds away accompanied by a few very gutteral short roars. My particular rifle combines what most have already covered - it has express sights with a large ivory front bead; QD mounts with 1.25-4.5 Zeiss [although low power the clarity allows precision work at distance];magna ported to control muzzle lift;match quality barrel; synthetic stock - retains zero in any climate; Canjar set trigger - also excellent for precise work; Pre 64 Mod 70 action giving controlled feed. This is the combo for "one gun" and I have shot rabbits [lead up practise to trips]; steel at 350yds and on up to Cape buffalo. Place the correct projectile in the right place first time and it will kill any game on the planet. Should I build another I probably would go for an AI chamber to straighten the case a little and slow the case lenght growth in this long tapered case with heavy loads. That is the only improvement I can think of after using this combo for 15yrs or so. A testimony to the smoothness of the old pre64 action is that I once shot all 7 pigs of a mob here in Nth Qld on a lead up trip prior to an Africa trip. Finally the all up weight loaded is 8 1/2 lbs so you can carry it all day no problems.

Ku-dude, Is Walt Sherman still kicking? He is a good old boy, ex-state trooper, armorer, Python tuner/guru, champion shooter, and custom riflesmith par excellence, from Florida. He did some work for me around 1990, but I moved out of Florida (Thank You Lord), and lost track of him. Do you have any contact info for Walt?
