Has anyone had any credit card problems recently in Namibia. There are quite a few warnings on the internet cautioning use of your credit card in Namibia. Copying credit cards and then withdrawing cash or making charges against your card seems to be a new industry. Recommendation was to use cash whenever possible and never let the card out of your sight particularly at restaurants. Suggestion was to have a credit card with a smaller credit line if you must use a card. One person only used their card at the airport duty free and wound up with bogus cash withdrawals and purchases.

This is mostly Namibian Bank issued ATM cards and RFID equipped credit cards. Your regular US Visa/MasterCard bank card is not generally a problem - and don't confuse the new chipped cards as a RFID card. Also check with your credit card company, but you are protected against fraudulent charges. I have never had a problem after 4+ years of working there. One thing that is happening with more frequency in Windhoek is petty theft. There has been a huge influx of construction workers in Windhoek with all the building going on. Don't leave anything of value in cars or unattended. Somehow or another folks seem to believe that anything unattended means it's abandoned up for grabs. The next Mamba or Cobra I catch is going into a briefcase. And if you are headed over anytime soon, it was 30 degrees F this morning in Windhoek... ___________________ Just Remember, We ALL Told You So.
