I had previously bought Peter Flack's other 4 dvds and thought they were kind of amautuerish but nice enough.

I have to say that this new "South Africa a Documentary with Peter Flack" is probably the most exceptional hunting DVD on plains game I have ever seen.

I have a huge DVD collection with over 250 hunting dvds from all the major producers including Jack Brittingham, Sportsmen on Film, Big Bore Productions, Jim Shockey, Hunters Video, Craig Boddington, Safari Classics, Stillan Kadrev, Safari Video, and most others.

I have that this is one of the most exceptionally put together and professional DVDs I have ever seen let alone that it's on Africa.

I bought it from Safari Press as they are starting to carry some dvds again.

Ok number 2 is from Big Bore Productions it's called "Death in Masailand". I have to say that it's nice that there are people on this planet like Mark Buchanan that both are far gone rifle cranks and do love hunting enough to showcase those rifles in his films. I got it from Ebay from Keiths dvds on ebay. I usually buy from him as he is much cheaper than Outdoor Visions for the same product.

This was another really great DVD, shot in high definition and with a lot of quality close ups, good dialogue, and exceptional cinemaphotography. If your a rifle crank, and you want to know more about the Rungwa and Masailand areas buy it. I paid $35. The downside is the name, it should have been called "Death in the Rungwa" as about 80% of it takes place there. Still a wonderful DVD.

Ok number 3 is "Zimbabwe Fire and Ice" from Sable Trail Productions front man Marc Watts. Marc Watts is kind of a different guy. First off he used to be a CNN reporter and I guess he even has an Emmy or Pulitzer or something they give you for being a talking head. His videos are really good, very professionally put together, but! And a big BUT! They are super commercial, every 5 minuites he is trying to sell you Murry Leather, Jarrett Rifles, Cabelas, Swarovski, or something else. He shoots really well and is probably deserving of his Africa name Bwana Moja or One Shot in Swahili. I have all of his DVDs including the one on the YO Ranch.

I recommend all of Watts products but I have to tell you be prepared to be sold something. He works hard to incorperate a lot of "buddy comments" on all his videos. And a lot of flashback bullshit that I think get's in the way of it being a really steller picture. Fire and Ice isn't available from Outdoor Visions or Keith on Ebay yet, you will have to order it direct from Marc or go the Safari Press route to get it.

Ok number 4 and the last one for today is Craig Boddington's African Experience. I will tell you that while this video is a fabulous source of information the editing and voice over is kind of difficult to hear. Craig is a wonderful story teller, and has had some amazing experiences in his 50+ safaris in Africa and this DVD makes you want to go on Safari. Exhaustive work on African hunting is all I can say. Exceptional bit of film on 2 DVDs.

I am awaiting the arrival of one on Markhor, a couple on Alaska, one on Ibex in Spain, one on European Wildboar from Hunters Video, and a couple more from Jack Brittingham on Zimbabwe and Tanzania.

OK here's my links for purchase. If you have a question about what I think of a Western Hunting, African, Asian, or European DVD ask. I have most of them. I don't watch bowhunting dvds or those about white tail deer so don't bother me with that drivel!

Thanks for the reviews and links.

I was wondering if Boddington's African Experience is just a collection of alot of the same footage and commentary found in his Tracks Across Africa show on TV. The Boddington on Buffalo video was already out when the series started to air, and I felt like I had seen the first season already having viewed BOB numerous times. So now, after Tivoing every episode of the series for a couple seasons, I wonder if I've essentially seen African Experience already as well.

Yes, it's true, and I have the "Tracks" DVD, but that being said, it is still a great pair of DVD's and I both enjoyed and learned from it. If nothing else it's great to have around for any hunting buddies that want to know about the continent.

Thank you for the links and your recommendations. I have to respectfully disagree however about anything from Marc Watts.
Seeing Mr. Watts shooting animals from vehicles and then laughing after the shot was absolutely nauseating. Add to this that he has to be told every five minutes what a 'fantastic' shot he is due to his incredible insecurity is another factor that makes me dislike his offerings.
I related my above complaints to Marc personally and sent back the dvd's for a refund.

I like dvds to be of good quality with clear photography, and a reasonable amount of BS.

Hunting DVDs are kind of like Porn. They have two main ways of doing things.

Scene based, meaning that the action isn't from any particular hunt or place. Some examples of these are from Mark Sullivan, Jim Shockey, and Jack Brittingham.

The second type is adventure based or "trip based". Where you see the whole trip, or maybe a couple whole trips. Some of Jack Brittinghams are this way. Sable Trail, Big Bore, Sportsmen on Film are this way.

Stillan Kedrav and Hunters video do a combination of the two, but are primarily trip based.

I prefer trip based stuff, if not I feel like I am watching a tv show.

I have always bought dvds from Ken Wilson and will continue to do so. He has produced more than anyone else. Quality has been up and down, but he for the most part does a good job. That and very few will go someplace before him.

Safari Video is now dead, I hear. And that's really too bad, they had the best stuff until this new breed of guys came along.

Hunters Video in Denmark is probably the best on the planet. They are expensive, and the guy is a bastard to deal with, and they are only made for PAL systems so you need to have that working. But, they are the best in regards to videography and music, backgrownd information, and clear flow of action. But for those of you that don't speak English as a first language they come with 6 languages tracks on them. Russian, Swedish, English, French, German, Danish, and I think Norsk.

Mark Sullivans videos are exceptional, if you like that sort of thing. The videography is stunning, though they are scene based not adventure based.

I had talked about some of the other ones like Big Bore and Sable Trail earlier in the post.

If your considering getting into this DVD thing let me know. I can point you in the direction of some really good stuff.

I have bought a lot of stuff lately that I consider to be shit. One with a lion charge comes to mind!

I have about 50 hunting videos/dvds. For what it is worth, I also have had the misfortune of purchasing Mr. Watts' "Africa's perfectly shot dangerous and plainsgame". MAU MAU is being kind. There we are, I have done my good deed for the day.

I like them, he is a different kind of guy. But if you have been around Africa enough to know he is no different than anyone else.

He's kind of crazy about shooting, and the truck kills are kind of par for the course in South Africa and Namibia.

When I first watched it I thought it was bullshit, but after I got back from Namibia I realized it was true to life.

He has my dream job and I think he does a good job of it.

I got Jack Brittingham's Zimbabwe 1 % 2 and Tanzania this week.

I watched all three and they are excellent as always.

For those of you used to seeing the normal scene based Brittingham movie these are more story based.

I enjoyed how he took his family with him, and his daughter Alex was really the star of the show. She took most of the animals.

I also received The Gander Mountain Craig Boddington Safari DVD. I don't have the cable channel that Treks Across Africa is one. So all this footage was new to me. But I have to say it was excellent. Tim Dankliff is a hell of a producer and videographer.

A really interesting buffalo charge, and a nice close range Bongo. Good stuff all around.

At the risk of being called a syncophant, I really enjoyed watching Saeed's videos. A big part of why I liked it was because it was essentially a home movie. No big production, no interruptions hawking a product or adding in some explanation, just a video of a hunt and in my opinion that lets you get more involved in it.

The only thing that would be better would be to see a video of my own hunt. Wink

Hello all,

I wanted every one to know that Marc Watts is a standup guy. I posted my disapointment with his product in this thread. Mr. Watts contacted me and offered to buy it back. He did so without expectation that I would post this. I thought you ought to know.

SG Olds,

Marc Watts is a stand up guy. Nice to know we have folks like that in the business.

Mr Rigby,

I bought Treks Across Africa from Ebay. I think someone had bought it at a Gander Mountain store and resold it on ebay.

I am not sure if it is available anywhere else.

Do you have "Lord of the Pinnacles" from Hunters Video? Is it very good? I thought that Limpopo Safari and Hunting in Poland were the best of this dvds. Most I think are great, some are good, one or two are boring.

I am trying to find a copy for sale without going through his website.

Noi havent got the "Lord of the Pinnacles", i havent got many of the new films yet.

I have "Limpopo nr 1" , and my favourite African movies is the
Serengeti 1&2, i have met the PH Nigel Archer on a couple of hunting shows, great guy indeed he is.

They have many good ones, and if you get the film about Norway you can see how we hunt over here at the various places and games.

Mr Rigby,

The one of Norway is another favorite. I would love to hunt reindeer in the hardongavitter mountains with horses like that. Truly amazing!

I have all the original ones before 2003, and I have Wild Boar, Sweden with dog, Kazkhstan for black grouse and roe, and maybe another one but I don't remember the title.

They are by far some of the best video ever shot whilst hunting. He does an excellent job, no hype, no bullshit, just good quality. That and the endeavor to have 5 languages on there is amazing!

I'd like to see them shoot Norway again, Finland, more in Russia, more in Poland, more in Spain, and go Tur hunting in Ajerbaijan.

Steve,

Stillian Kedrevs videos are really good. I am not sure how to contact him directly as I bought mine from www.outdoorvisions.com in the states. You will pay quite a bit more through outdoor visions.

I would like very much to see an big game hunting film from Argentina from Hunters Video, they have 2 films mostly about doveshooting, and hopefully that will come with one another someday.

Hunters Videos are hunting films, not "hunting/rock videos" as some other can be
I hope tha tthey will go to places as rarely has been seen on other films, so they will probably come out with more exciting films in the next years.

Mr Rigby,

Stillian Kedrev has videos on Markhor, Iran, Kazkstan, Krygzia, Russia, as well as the baltics. I highly recomend them. Though they are no where near as good as those produced by Hunters Video.

I agree Hunters Video does not produce rock videos like so many American based companies. Kind of a nice touch, don't you think?

I was thinking the same thing about Argentina, the big game hunting there is very good. But not so many good videos. Sportsmen on Film produce 2 on Argentina. Both are good, one is from the late 1980s the other is more modern.

www.sportsmenonfilm.com

I would like to see some more on Alpine Ibex in Switzerland and Austria. I know that there are some for the German speaking market that are out with those animals, but not any others. Paul Parrey has those for sale.

Its good to see huntingfilms and not musicvideos,

That didnt surprise me tha tsportsmen on film had some about Argentina, as im planning an trip there next year, so all information about them is welcome

The hunsters video film about hunting here in norway shows that wwe hunt more for meat and less for trophy and therefore we uses very much Premium bullets that dont ruin meat, that is what we look for mostly in a good bullet, and presicion also and weight retention

Since the dollar is very low now it is a good time to invest in hunting films from abroad, its much cheaper than to bet them from the stores over here.
