Lest we forget.

Anyway, I do hope those of you that are observing this Holiday are making the most of it. I am sure many of you have friends or relations who served in a war somewhere. Some may even have perished. Take some time to visit or listen to those who were there.

I am working today and taking a short break for the moment to remember the sacrifices of many to keep some of us free.

I sat at a Memorial Day service in the small town where I am the Mayor..I looked over the crowd and I saw one of our own residents there who has a son MIA 39 years from Vietnam...Her hope has not faltered... I am thankful to all the service men and women for there sacrifices..So that we can live the lives we do..

Sincerely,

Michael Podwika

Memorial Day is the one day that really puts things into perspective for me as a soldier. I am always amazed at the generations before and what they sacraficed for all of us. Especially the WW2 vets. Not only did we lose countless thousands on the front lines but the entire generation paid the costs of that war. It makes me sad to think that we may never see the days again when an entire nation stood behind its military. The women who went to work in the factories and the families who lived off of their Victory Gardens and tight rations. We really take for granted just what the soldiers from the past gave us. It is a tough act to follow as a soldier today.

A friend of mine who has had about 1000 more takeoffs than landings (US Army Retired) sent this to me the other day.

I think it is worth considering on this day of remembrance.

I am still open for donations for Russels big Tanzania Buffalo hunt..We are at about $5000 but could use another couple of thousand if anyone cares to show how we feel...

And thanks to all those who have already participated in this well deserved endeavor, regardless of the size of the donation, its the idea behind all this that brings the hunting brotherhood together..

And for all the Iraqi vets out there that have done service in Iraq, I will still hunt you less my total commission...I wish I could do this for every vet in the USA but I cannot, so this is my best shot...

Thanks Ann its all too often that we forget the one's who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our freedom and the ones that are out there now standing on the front lines while we are back here with our families.

The price of freedom is a value the protected shall never know. I make an effort to avoid all things political here as this is an international forum, but I'm sure our international friends will allow this digression. Thanks, Jorge

Jorge, Although this is an international forum the price of freedom is the same everywhere. This may be an American Holiday but is by no means limited to the US. This is particulary true for WWII. Wherever our members are located they can share in honouring those who have sacrificed for their countries and others. The fact that we have the most freedoms of any nation on earth due to these sacrifices over the years is a fact. It dosnt mean that others dont have their own as well. In this I honour all who have sacrificed for the greater good of all.

I've spent much of today relaxing and thinking about those who have given to preserve our principles and traditions, including my father and my grandfathers who served in WWII and WWI.
