I just received the dates for my 5th safari. I'll be headed to Tanzania on 21 August 2009 to begin a 10-day buffalo hunt. This will be my third trip with Zuka Safaris into the Selous and I'll be hunting LU2. I've taken all the plains game I desire and will concentrate on buffalo. Honestly, I've never seen any really big buffalo in this area but I'm sure they pass through some time or another. I know, I could hunt other areas in Africa for bigger buffalo but I know the overall quality of this area, the camp and the staff. Aside from that, I just like it there and feel very comfortable. A year seems like a long, long time but we all know how quickly it can pass especially as we get older. I've already started counting down the days and soon, I'll be booking a flight.

Congrats! I wish I were going with you. I'm looking at some options for buffalo in Tanzania for next year myself.

I think I was Zuka's first client into LU-2 five or six years ago. They had just taken over the consession after the still mysterious disappearence of Jaco DuPlessis. There were lots of Buffalo but few shooters. I think Zuka has been managing it well and it is getting better every year. Richard Brebner was my PH and he still works for the.His passion is Buffalo hunting and I highly recommend him.We saw lots of Lion,Elephant, and my wife shot an outstanding Nyassa Wildebeest. I did finally get a hard bossed bull of average size.

Yeah, my first year was 2003 and I've hunted with Richard two times since then. I'm also scheduled to hunt with him in 2009. He's a super PH and a fine gentleman. I have certainly enjoyed his company each time. He is a student of the hunt. In 2005, his wife was in camp with us. She was a welcome addition and made the trip really special. I lost my younger sister to cancer a year before my last trip and when I flew out, she and I both cried...it was like I was losing my sister all over again. Richard and I still communicate when he is in the US each year. I am really looking forward to getting back there. After you visit the Selous, I think a part of you always remains there...waiting for you to come back.

Bull; We hunted with Richard in Chewore (northern Zim) when he was with Roger Whittal.
I keep in touch with him also. Last year my wife and I visited him at Burnt Pine for a little quail hunting. I hope to go again with him but business has turned downward a bit.. If you talk to him or E-mail him or Deb, tell him Chuck and Marla said Hi. He will know who you are talking about. Thanks.

Chuck,

I know I have heard him speak of you when I was in camp in '05. I will be sure to let him know we were in contact with each other.
