I guess I've got "African Feet" except for the wide part. Definitely flat. Courtney's fit me fine. I usually take one pair of Courtney's and one pair of Russell's and alternate, but last year, I'd just moved and couldn't find my Russell's so I took two identical pair of Courtney's and alternated. Worked just as well.

Merrell Moab hikers (with super feet insoles) for me. I wear a set on the plane and pack a set of backups in the luggage. I do use a set of low canvas gaiters to keep the stones out.

Footwear is a choice - the Moabs are the lightest I can get away with.

Every trip I make I remind myself that less is more. Less is more.
