Hi Folks,

I am looking for information about Masailand Buffalo hunting, in particular the Tarangire Park area (Lolkisale and Loboir Serrit). Have any of you been to these areas what are good expectations in terms of size / quality of the Buffalo and plains game. Thanks in advance for any input. Hugh

hugh,

I have not been there, YET, but I would highly recommend that you contact Adam Clements. He has hunts there and the trophy quality is tops. I'll let him refer you to previous clients for their reports.

This is where I plan on going for my 3rd hunt, for BIG Buff. Actually, there or Botswana. I am after the BIG Boys, and that is where they are at.

Adam is currently in Tanzania but you can contact his office and they will send you the information and can put you in touch with him if you need to talk to him before he returns from Safari.

My Tanzania outfitter was in town last March for my SCI Chapter fund raiser. He brought video with him from Masailand and the video revealed numerous 50 inch buffs. These were filmed in December prior to his visit here. Should be a good area for trophy buffalo, though the big boys do not come out of the parks until late in the year. If you are looking for such a trophy I'd recommend you give yourself an early Christmas present. I can certainly help you set your hunt up if you like.

Hugh,

Your best chance at a huge buffalo is on the concessions bordering Tarangire National Park. However, depending on the conditions, you could see a lot of buffalo or almost none. It's my understanding that, if it's dry in the concessions, then the buffalo stay in the park where there is a permanent source of water.

Last year, I did a lot of research for a 10 day buffalo hunt in the concessions around Tarangire and the outfitter warned me that dry conditions could make the hunt difficult. He suggested to hunt either, very early in the season or very late.

This lady hunted around Tarangire for 10 days and this is the only buffalo she saw (but what a buffalo).

Regards,

Terry

Sam and Terry,

Thanks for the insights. I have booked a 10 day hunt with Adam Clements for the Loboir Serrit concession in August 2005. I look forward to a great hunt. I have heard that the best thing about this particular area is that there is permanent water and the buffalo are not as prone toward leave the area during drought as in other areas that border Tarangire. I hope to get a bruiser dagga boy. Thanks. Hugh
