Saw a short report on BBC on large swarms of locusts that are apparently threatening crops in the East Cape area of South Africa. The reporter followed a crew of several vehicles with insecticide sprayers as they, at night, sprayed a large area where locust swarms were located. These locusts, per the report, are a different species than the ones that have been plaguing parts of northern Africa since last summer. Any idea as to how real the threat is to South African agriculture, and of course, wildlife. The head of the spray crew in the interview made it sound like a major potential risk to the South African food supply. | ||
