My goodness, I had no idea so many of you had such trouble! That said, I couldn't picture a 'home' without memories of the hunt in every room.

Well ladies and gentlemen this may just my 1930s generation talking but OUR house was bought by ME, and in the whole house my wife may decorate as she pleases, as long as she doesn’t bother my trophy room or office! Even our landscaping was directed by my wife around every home we have bought.

I haven’t mounted a lot of what I have shot over the last 70 years of hunting, or measured any of them, but the ones I want on my wall, go on my wall.

Day before yesterday was my 51st wedding anniversary with my second wife. She is my second wife because my first wife tried, unsuccessfully, to place my balls in her purse, so she went her way and I went mine.

Gentlemen my wife is an equal in my home but then so am I! I’m a hunter and that was no secret when we were married, she is a very good decorator, and the rest of the home is hers. I don’t think the thought of telling me not to have mounts in our home, ever crossed her mind, but it wouldn’t have made any difference if it had!

Call it what ever you wish, but that is the way we have rolled for 51 years, and it works for us! Politically correct we are not and I apologize to nobody for being a hunter and if anyone dislikes my trophies they don’t have to come in my home.

I had to build a trophy room to keep the wife from complaining about all the mounts on the wall. It's funny how she never complained about the trophys and hunting before we were married. At least she is a great mother to our son.

I am truly blessed, my wife doesn't hunt, likes shooting skeet, encourages me to hunt/fish whatever I want, where I want. She loves my trophies, listens to my stories, calls me on my B.S., trusts me, and she makes more money than I ever dreamed of making.

Now the first wife...

What you need to do is get the taxidermy volume past the tipping point. When all I had was a few North American heads scattered about, such as boar, deer and pronghorn mounts my wife didn't care for it. Fast forward 20 years later and a number of safaris and now she proudly takes every repairman and visitor on a museum tour of the house.

I had a practice wife so I made sure I got what I wanted with the next (final) wife. While reading this thread I looked around the house and almost half the mounts on the wall are hers. By the way, I am going to pick up her blackbuck pedastal mount this afternoon.

Mac, that is exactly as it is in our house. Still on my first wife however, now of 28 years. She tried to keep me from hunting on Thanksgiving day the first year we were together (prior to marriage) and that ended then and there. Tried to keep my trophies in the garage the first two years in our first house big enough to hang them. That ended there as well. She has won her battles as well; decor of the rest of the house, design of the house, landscape, etc. But the trophy room is mine and mine alone complete with a wet bar. One of her friends tried to convince her to not let me have a bar in the room saying it would be detrimental to family life. I told the bitch off on the spot and I don't think she and my wife have spoken since (the bitch was the friend).

I once had a fellow pilot friend at AA ask me about my 14 day hunt in Alaska back in 08. His comment was "What did your wife have to say about being gone on a hunt for that long and spending all that money". Good grief, I just about blew a gasket then and there. Bottom line, the response was that I wouldn't have married a woman that considered that kind of trip to be a problem!

Most of my wife's friends think I'm an asshole and I probably am at times because I'm not very accommodating to the "main stream wives club" if you know what I mean. But guns and hunting are the very heart of who and what I am. It's an obsession that has lasted my entire life to this point and I'm too old to change now. Niether she, my kids, nor anyone else will dictate what I hunt or whether or not it goes in the house. I hear guys say their wife or daughter says they can't shoot an elephant, zebra, or giraffe. That would not go over well at my house. I would first try to educate them about the Disney farce and if that didn't work, well ... I just wouldn't be very popular for a while at home as I'd do it anyway. But I wouldn't hide it from them either.

I have to say that at this point in our lives, my wife and I are at peace concerning major battles of power. That's when things get comfortable in a relationship. She gets her way on most things, but knows that guns, hunting, and taxidermy are battles that I win. Actually at this point, she encourages me on which animals she would like to see in the room and what type of mount. She's come a long way since the beginning, and I've actually learned to like some of her junk ... er... antiques.
