I am planning a hunt in Namibia April 14- May 7. After hunting I have been offered a chance to visit the Caprive and fish for Tiger fish. Does anybody have any experience Tiger fishing in the Caprive area ? Is late April a good time to fish? Is the Caprive safe ?

Robert - I was in the Caprivi last April-May. It is a real nice time of the year, cool nights and warm days, trees and vegetation still a bit green but beginning to turn colors. Out camp was along the Kwando where my son and I fished for catfish only, no tiger in this particular stretch. We had planned to spend a day fishing in an area called "horseshoe" near the Botswana boarder, but the leopard didn't cooperate until the end of the hunt. I wouldn't expect tiger fishing on the slow-moving Kwando (assuming this is the river you'd be on, and in late April) to be like that of the Zambezi, in quantity or size. The way to fish it is from boat, floating down river as it meanders towards Botswana. The Caprivi is quite safe, and in 28-days there last year I did not have any trouble whatsoever. The only "danger" would come from the elephants (as it supposed to be), as at least in the West Caprivi it is loaded with them! As was suggested, talk to whoever you will be fishing with and make sure there is good tackle (wire leaders, Mepp's-style lures, rod/reel, large hooks for catfish, heavy-test line, etc). A rod in the rifle case plus a reel with a folding handle and an extra spool and a small tackle box does not take up much space if so inclined. Regards, Bill Edit: Alf, I just saw the picture of you fishing from the "beach" on Horseshoe - that's great!
