Trapping is an interest of mine as well as hunting. .458 Aubs posted a hunt report with a photo of what looks like a hand forged foot hold trap that they encountered in the bush. I know many hunters have come across these as well as snares etc..

My question is this: Can a visiting hunter take any of these items home as a souvenir or are these items confiscated by the game department?

If it were possible to keep one/purchase one, I would imagine they could be shipped along with trophies?

Also if anyone has any more photos of African traps I would love to see them. Some of the ingenuity demonstrated in the trap designs is pretty impressive considering the materials avilable.

I understand that traps and snares are the tools of poachers in Africa and therefore the history and use of the devices are much different (and thought of more negatively) than in the US. For this reason I can understand if these things are confiscated and destroyed by the various game departments.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this and thanks for any replies.

Grafton,

Mokore can provide a selection of traps they've confiscated in their anti poaching work. Just ask when you get to camp. You can put them in your trophy shipment or as my other client did just throw one in your luggage.
