By the way, the two form 990 links I posted are available from SCI's website. They are not restricted to members only, as I didn't log in to get them. While you are at it, compare the financial resources available to HSUS and those available to SCI, and you will see what we are up against.

Two statistics from HSUS:

Expenditures $70,306,473.00
End-Of-Year Net Worth $111,021,299.00

According to CharityReports, SCI Foundation spends 75% of the contributions on actual programs, the rest on administration and fundraising. This rates 2-stars on a 5 star rating system. It is curious to note this is the same rating as HSUS, and the lowest rating of the 5 "comparable groups" listed by default on this site.

SCI is not listed on the Better Business Bureau web site.

Please post others stats and links if you have them available. I believe that education about where organizations spend their funds is the best way to influence behavior.

Thanks Bill. It's not a great ratio, but it is actually better than I had feared. Smiler

If you want to donate money to a charity that uses nearly all of its donated money for the purpose intended and pays its employees very little, look at the Salvation Army. http://www.charitywatch.org/articles/salvarmy.html

Am an SCI Life Member. Key is SCI's role in protecting rights to hunt and to keep firearms. The organization is not so good at fostering hunters' responsibilities in my view, but that is secondary to the first purpose. Have also supported the SCI Political Action Committee...

Erik D,

It is important to distinguish between SCI and the SCI foundation. Much of the cash to the foundation comes from SCI. The two tax forms patrykhntr posted are very informative if you look at them carefully.
I didn't find anything more about SCI at ActivistCash.com. I'm not sure why this site was recommended. There is lots of information available in this internet age. Not all of it the pure, unadulterated truth, but enough good hard data to form opinions. I believe everyone considering membership should become educated. The voice of the public does effect these charities. There is room for improvement.

Well said. It seems to me that one of the biggest problems such organizations have is that the vast majority of members simply fork over the money, and then shut up.

And very often, whoever dares voice an opinion that questions how things are done in such organizations, ends up getting jumped on by the "loyal followers". Especially regarding SCI right here on AR. Wink
