Got a great deal on some Federal 300gr TBBC's at $35 a box, and there are a number of 300gr TB SledgeHammer solids for $45 a box left. Has anyone used these before, and how was the performance? Won't need any of these for the leopard hunt next spring, but a 10 day buffalo hunt the following year is very possible.

Buy a couple of boxes. I think you'll be happy. Good factory ammo. MARK H. Used both in Zambia last year. Those are good prices. "I envy not him that eats better meat than I do; nor him that is richer, or that wears better clothes than I do; I envy him, and him only, that kills bigger deer than I do." Izaak Walton (modified)

Blank, The Fed. TBS ammo was extremely accurate in my rifle and landed on top of the Rem. A-Frame ammo. The Fed. ammo was a bit gentler to shoot than the Rem. I shot a deer with the TBS. The bullet entered at the last rib and exited ~1.5" behind the far shoulder bone hitting no bones except a rib. The entire off shoulder was blood shot, looked like it had been shot with a .243. So much for eat right up to the bullet hole! The TBS worked well for a buffalo shoulder shot, going straight through but hit no heavy bones. Tissue damage was less than with the deer. Still, if you do a search you'll find some negative reports. I'm handloading my ammo now and will use a different solid for elephant based on what I've read here.

Thanks guys. I think they are worth a try anyway, so will get several. My reloads of AA2700 with 270 and 300 SP's are accurate, but not as good as either factory or reload 260 Nosler AccuBond's. Hopefully both of these will be good in my gun also. I do believe from reading all the glowing reports that A-Frames, North Forks and Woodleighs are all gonna get a try.

If your gun is like mine, you will appreciate the results you get with Sledgehammer. I don't see you you can go wrong having a stash of it always available when you go to Africa. They're a must on buffalo and elephant.

I used them on my trip - no problems and thought they performed very well. I bought them from Midway - cannot remember the price. I will use them on my next trip as well.

I have been using them for a long time in Africa and have been very pleased with their effectiveness. I and my wife will be using them again in one month on the next Safari.

I've used both on 7 safaris. They will work on buffalo and thin skinned game such as leopard. They shoot well out of all 4 of my 375s. I would buy them in a heartbeat!
