My Mother Anne, passed away yesterday 4pm at the young age of 52. She was diagnosed with leukemia 4 weeks ago and went onto chemotherapy treatment immediately. On Thursday night she fell into a deep sleep and never woke up again and was connected to the necessary equipment to keep her alive. Tuesday morning the doctors decided to switch off the machines as a result of the convulsions and epileptic attacks that she got, since it would harm her more than do any good. At 4pm she finally fell away into a better world.

Although I was the only hunter in the family and I started to bring home carcasses to process since the age of 14 she never stood in my way or ever discouraged me in anyway as she knew that hunting was my life and made me happy. When my parents divorced when I was 17 in ’93 she went back to Belgium permanently. Even there, trough the little contact we had with letters before the great old Internet she always encouraged me no matter what I did.

Last year in September she visited us and we had a great time it was her firs time that she met my wife Charmaine and her only grandson Aaron. I am so lucky to have had her here with us last year as it just shows you how quick a life can end with no warning.

God Bless Her.

My mother with my son Aaron last year September.

Frederik,

Your mom looks like she was a lovely lady, far too young to pass away. My condolences to you and your family and also to model70man, Bill.

My mom is getting up there in age and I do not live near by to her. But we phone often and our chats often start with "I need my mother!" And she will ask what has happened. Or she will call and say "I need my daughter!"

Normally it is something light, like I need help with a construction project (my mom has an awesome woodshop). Or like yesterday I called her and when she answered the phone I said, "You need your daughter!" Which got her to asking what I did, etc. It has been a good way to express how much we care about each other.

I know how much I will miss our interaction when that day comes. Then we must carry on with our good memories.

I got a flight booked to fly to Belgium tonight and I will be back by the end of next week. I should have some internet connection there.

Thanx again all.

Frederik - I don't know you, you don't know me, so I don't really know if any words coming from me would matter much to you in the grand scheme of things, but I would like to offer my condolences to you and your family during this difficult time.

I work in a hospital and see the ebb and flow of humanity and mortality every day. Over the years it has made me harder, less caring, and less emotional about it because it is a defense mechanism. To do otherwise would make my job impossible.

However, reading your post and seeing your mother's picture cracked my barriers - such a young age for this to have happened.

I am so sorry for your loss, and the loss suffered by your child to have barely been able to spend time with his gradmother.

To everyone - please, PLEASE try hard to live a healthy life, don't put things into your body that you know are bad for you, and get regular medical checkups. But mostly, LIVE! Do the things you always wanted to do, don't keep putting them off until "next year". Life is random, sometimes short, and you never have enough time.

Federik,
My condolences to you and your family.
Loosing a parent is a rough time.
From my own experience you will never get over it. With the Grace of God, the love of your family and some time, you will learn to live with this loss. I still miss my folks!

Frederik,

I lost my own mother in 2004. I had her much longer than you had yours but like your mother she always encouraged me to follow my passions in life. Not a day goes by that I do not think of her and even now, four years later I sometimes forget she's gone.
I doubt her visit last year was mere coincidence. Many things in life are much clearer when looking back. As much as you'll miss her at least she didn't suffer as long as many do. Your mother was not much older than I am now. Such tragedies remind us how precious life is and particularly the time we have.
My deepest condolences my friend.
