I'm making my first trip to RSA in July and was wondering if anyone can give me some info on the process for shipping trophies back to the USA. Do most of the African taxidermists know the procedures for shipping thru US customs? Are there arrangements I need to make back home before going? I am a true novice and have never hunted with a guide or outfitter before.

GRR,

I am of the opinion they know more about it than most of the Taxidermist here.

I didn't make any arrangements that I could recall.

As far as the process, I had my work done in RSA, I didn't to anything but respond to an email on how I wanted my mounts done and send money.

Some of the other guys are very familiar with the process of shipping hides back and etc more so than I am.

GRR,

I'm a Taxidermist (who knows the process) I'm also a USF&W Importer/Exporter and a agent for the USDA.

If all your trophies are mounted and skins finished in Africa there's no problem getting them home. I need more details as to what your shipping and where you live. Maybe I can give you some ideas......

GRR,

I have a professional in RSA who does dip, pack and ship. If you would like to set up a dialog with him send me an email and I will put the two of you together.

Now that I reread my own post it does not answer all your questions.

Your booking agent and outfitter should both have information for you to help you make this process go smoothly.

If you have a Taxidermist here in the states then he should be able to give you all the direction you need. If he is going to do the work he will be able to give you name tags for you to use on your trophies as they are skinned and processed at the hunting location. If the taxidermist cannot give you all the help you need - you may want to find another one that can.

If you want the taxidermy done in RSA, your outfitter will have recommendations for you as will numerous contributors here - if you are hunting in the Eastern Cape I can highly recommend Taxidermy Africa who are located in Humansdorp and pick up the trophies from many Eastern Cape locations [thus avoiding all the "Dip and Pack" charges from the ourfitter]. Contact Roland Peacock there.
