I have been to South Africa and Botswana on amazing plains game safaris. I am wanting to plan either a specialty type plains game hunt or a buff hunt next. I am leaning towards plains game and taking my father in law who has dealt with some health issues lately. He would strictly be an observer. Is there anywhere in Namibia to hunt specialty plains game? When I refer to specialty I should clarify. I have shot all the regular stuff like Eland, Impala, Black & Blue Wildebeest, Warthog, Kudu, etc. I was looking in RSA at Common Reedbuck, colors of Springbok, Baboons (not a specialty just have not shot one), Oribi, Lechwe, etc. I would really like to go to Namibia to go somewhere new. Suggestions?

I would like to suggest Nyala/Bushbuck/Reedbuck/Red Duiker in Zululand. Have just the place for father/son hunts. most of the animals you listed are really not native to Namibia, although they may reside on high fenced ranches. Vote Trump- Putin’s best friend… To quote a former AND CURRENT Trumpiteer - DUMP TRUMP

There are some unique, native species to Namibia. As previously mentioned, Black-faced Impala and Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. In addition, Damara Dik-Dik. One problem may be finding an outfitter who can offer these three species within a reasonable distance of each other. Black-faced Impala are not currently importable into the U.S., so that could play a role in your decision to hunt one. Hartmann's Zebra require a CITES permit, not a big deal if you submit the paperwork well in advance. As far as Damara Dik-Dik goes, Namibia has a fairly strict annual quota, so you would need to request one so the outfitter could make the necessary arrangements.

I believe Hartmans only requires a permit to export, not to import to the US. That's the way mine worked several years ago. No advance planning or paperwork needed on the Namib side as far as I know, nothing on the US side. Gemsbok, Springbok, Kudu are usually a must when hunting Namibia along with the Mountain Zebra. They have some of the best in the business of these species. Namibia is a great place to visit, especially if a non hunter is along. Lots of really neat things to do there all around the Country. Plan several non hunting days while there and enjoy what this Country really has to offer in addition to some fine hunting. Larry Sellers SCI Life Member

Send a message to nampom, a member of this site and owner of Vieranas Safaris. They have both the Hartmann's zebra and Damara dik-dik available for fair chase hunting. http://www.vieranasbowhunt.com/

Check out Jan Oelofse Safaris in Namibia. They have good Mt Zebra, dik-dik, roan, sable, nyala, springbok (colors also), and many others. All in a free range setting, on a large, contiguous property. No driving from ranch to ranch. There are also eles, rhino, hippo and even lions, although generally not available to hunt. I've never seen a greater variety of species on a single property.
