One in which the writer recounts all his experiences in a book or writes a book for each experience? I certainly think it is the one where the writer writes it all down in a single book and does not bore the reader with tons of garbage.

I have read 300 or so and have rated/ranked them on my personal tastes. For me, I detest the books by the past Weatherby Award winners ( there are many books by theses folks) as they are "I went there and shot this" books. For me the best are much like FC Selous book, "A Hunter's Wanderings in Africa" or Mary Cabelas book "Two Hearts, One Passion" or Corbett's books on India- they convey feelings, impressions, emotions and observations about people and life there. Books by old PH's are good and bad. Some are a string of unrelated vignettes. Some offer insight into the people. I enjoyed Kia Uwe-Denker's book - this guy is not a skilled writer but conveys emotions and feelings and observations very well. Capstick and Ruark tell great stories and they are fun to read but are not my favorites. Anyway, I hope this helps.

I follow your reviews dogcat and they are interesting in that you may actually discuss something you like or read about in the book.I can't say that for other reviews or even about those who recommend books as I have been disappointed many times.

I like books that are well written and make the reader feel like he/she can feel the sweat running down their backs as the tension builds up as they enter the thick stuff after a wounded lion/buff/ellie/leo, etc. I like accounts that are based upon real life experiences and have plenty of detail. PHC is one of my favorites (even though many have issues with him). Just picked up a copy of "Maneaters" BTW. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

I'd like to read a book of shootaways' life experiences in Africa. I think that would be most entertaining!

For me, it's the 4-H's. Honesty, humility, happiness and humor. And one more "H" - hard to find. But they are out there. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

If I were to write my experiences I am sure many would be pleased to read them because I would write about what I truly experienced.I would not write things to make myself accepted by others or for any other reason other than "telling it like it was".I am not a fake person.
