Would someone please compare the two shows? I'm going to Dallas for the first time this year (I went to Reno last year). I'm mainly interested in talking to outfitters and PHs. Don't give a rats patutty about art, furniture or annuities.

Kind of hard to compare an Internatonal SCI convention(Reno),with a local safari club(Dallas).Dont get me wrong there is nothing wrong with Dallas. Its like comparing Dallas to Houston Safari Clubs. Reno is something that all hunters should see at least once. Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war; That this foul deed shall smell above the earth With carrion men, groaning for burial.

Dallas is quite a bit smaller, but probably the second largest Safari Club type of show (???) Cover charge is 1/10th of Reno, weekend passes are $25. Reno is $250, I believe. Dallas is a quality show. Lots of outfitters. Come to Dallas!

At the urging of my friend David Guitar my wife and I are taking in Reno this year. I am really looking forward to the Dallas show. Lots of good people I get to visit with and have lots of laughs, good fellowship and lasting friendships made. It will be good to see Wendell, Mac, Harry, Perry, Mark, Mike, Ernest, George and the whole gang again. Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. Do not be uneasy about me, for I am with my friends." ----- David Crockett in his last letter (to his children), January 9th, 1836 "I will never forsake Texas and her cause. I am her son." ----- Jose Antonio Navarro, from Mexican Prison in 1841 "for I have sworn upon the altar of god eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man." Go to Dallas or Houston - both are more personal and easier to visit with outfitters.

I'll be at DSC this year and will be happy to retell my story of illegally harvesting a nice Crowell, Texas tree with my .500 NE during the last DRSS hunt... 577NitroExpress Double Rifle Shooters Society Francotte .470 Nitro Express If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming...

From a Safari company perspective... if we didn't go to SCI/Reno no matter how rough the schedule is...or how expensive it is...we wouldn't stay half as busy as we have been the last several years. But I DO enjoy attending the Dallas show and we have a lot of old friends/clients down there. And then there's RAY! Rich Elliott Rich Elliott Ethiopian Rift Valley Safaris

Reno is bigger, more folks to talk to, more like being in a pressure cooker, seems like you gotta hurry here and there...much bigger show. I work the Tuffpak booth there. In Dallas and Houston I have my own booth and the Dallas show is much more laid back, lots more fun, and you will still see ALL the major PH's and booking agents plus many smaller but good ones like Wendell (and if you like Namibia...me!) Reno will probably have 1600 exhibitors and Dallas will have 700. Houston just fills up a Hotel ballroom and a tad outside the ballroom. Dallas has no intentions of getting as big as Reno. We are not looking for the hurry, hurry, pressure cooker atmosphere. You can borrow money but you can not borrow time. Go hunting with your family.

Isn't this the first time in many years the SCI has come before Dallas? Would it be possible that many of the most desired venues will be sold before Dallas this year? It seems the demand is strong.... I am trying to have my business done before Reno.At any rate that may be a consideration when you are picking which one to attend.

Another big plus for both Dallas and Houston is that Carmelpants usually doesn't attend either one!!! DC300

Like a number of others here, I have done both shows...I had to run to make it with flying elbows through 1/2 of Reno...and was worn out...not a lot of interest in talking to you, either (except for the wonderful people from Spain..but then, Spanish does come in handy)...Dallas, on the other hand, is wonderful...get there early, see everything, talk to people who will talk to you, attend the seminars without too much trouble if you have a mind to do so...not so worn out, come away with warm feelings and longing desires....Arthur

I have never been to the Reno show and I understand that it is considerably larger than Dallas. But this is TEXAS and we are the friendliest, most hospitable, and most modest people in the whole world. Seriosly speaking, the Dallas show gives you a wide variety of outfitters and you have the atmosphere, time, and attitude to ask outfitters the type of questions that need to be asked. Have fun in Dallas and HOOK'em HORNS. Jerry Hoover

I've been reading some of the posts here, I don't understand why so many people think Reno is such a unfriendly show full of nasty people. That's the feelings I get. In all the years I have gone to it, I've never or very rarely had someone rude or nasty. Every outfitter I talked to was more then helpful and friendly. I've had alot of invites to drinks and dinner, and I always mange to keep busy there. All the folks that have booths there and complain about the show, well hell! they are there year after year, can't be that bad! I haven't been to Dallas yet, I do plan on attending in the near future, I'm sure it's just as friendly, if they are anything like our Texas AR members, I'm sure to have a great time! I’ve been to both and I will return to Dallas but probably not Reno. I liked Reno but it has much more of a circus atmosphere and it cost a TON MORE. I didn’t think people were more rude or nasty there and you can find several of about anything you are looking for. AND I got to see the world record cape buff… a real treat for me. The taxidermy displays were phenomenal. It was a little like taking a drink (of champagne) out of a fire hydrant. With that said… I think you should go once… just for the experience if nothing else. Dallas is much smaller but I spent two days looking around and chatting last time I was there… so it ain’t dinky. You can find several of about anything there also. The taxidermy is good but not as prevalent or spectacular. The people (exhibitors and attendees) seemed a little more laid back and less pretentious. Dallas is more like drinking beer out of a garden hose. Let us know what you think when you get back. Make the first one count!

Have not been to the Dallas Show, nor have I been to SCI Reno, although I do make an annual trek to Reno anyway. However, I do attend the Houston Show each year. Houston is small, filling a hotel ballroom and outside halls, and very friendly. Everyone is talking and showing pictures and brochures. I've found it a good place to talk myself hoarse with the PHs and the vendors. Due to the size of the Houston Show, I suspect that you may actually get more contact with the assorted PHs than you might at a larger show, but then I'm from a small town in Texas, and just planning my second trip to Africa.
