5 accused of poaching The Herald September 17,2008 HR. POLICE have arrested five suspected poachers in Harare and recovered three Zebra hides and a .303 rifle. Francis Marecha (25), Peter Sakupwanya (25), Brighton Kerias (25), David Jakwi (25) and Abinel Muchenge (36) were arrested on Sunday night in Mabelreign. Police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau said police on patrol intercepted the poachers along Sherwood Drive in Mabelreign. Insp Sabau said the five suspected poachers were driving in a Peugeot 504, registration number 656-689R. He said when police searched the vehicle, they found three Zebra hides, four butcher’s knives and hacksaws. The five were taken to Mabelreign Police Station where they admitted having killed the Zebra’s at Alec Farm in Mutorashanga. Insp Sabau said the five were still in police custody as investigations continues. — HR.
