I am by no means a wealthy man. I am just an average working man. It is a shame that the prices of most safaris have long since left the average working man behind. I have been to South Africa twice for plains game and am ready to try the dangerous game out. However, I am on a budget. The game I would like to pursue are as follows: Cape Buffalo, Leopard, Sable, Bushbuck Is it possible to hunt all of these animals on one safari for less than $25,000? When I say $25,000 I mean all taxes, dipping and packing, visas, air charters, etc. (everything except airfare). Thanks for the input!

Unfortunately, I don't think it is possible. You have 3 animals there that are premium species. I think any 2 of them will likely exceed your number. The closest you might come on that is Buff and Sable. That is probably doable but adding the leopard is a different story as you must also shoot your bait animals, sometimes more than once if they spoil before you get your cat. A Buff and Sable would be a very enjoyable hunt however with a good chance of being successful on both. Good luck with your search.

Your real enemy is not the individual cost of the animals but the time to get them. You can probably do a 7 day buff hunt in Zim for $9000-10,000 (excluding airfare) or even less on an end of season deal... but if you wanted to do a Leopard/Buff combo you will see both a bump in daily rates AND the necessity of 12-14 days if you want a legit shot at the cat. So....figure maybe $1300 per day, $3000 on the buffalo and maybe $4000 on the leopard for trophy fees. That means $25,200 for just those two species over 14 days (+ bait animals as mentioned above). Add $3500 for Sable and $700-800 for Bushbuck. Call it $30K all in before airfare and the slightly higher dip and pack fees/shipping when dealing with more critters. I would do a road charter in Zim to save a few bucks. Sounds like a lot of money, but it is definitely cheaper than doing two or three separate hunts for these species....especially when you factor in repeated int'l travel costs.

Ozultra, I think to get close to $25,000 you'll need to drop the leopard or sable which both have high trophy fees and add days to the safari. Mark MARK H. I did alot of research last year for my first DG safari. Just from what i saw i doubt you can do it for that price. I havent looked for awhile but most buff / lepoard combos are in the niebhorhood of $18,000 - $20,000 in daily rates. You start adding charters, taxes, bait animals trophy fees etc. Your going to reach $25,000 pretty quickly. I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.

Not likely -- But, you could probably do both a Buff and a Leopard for about that price with a little shopping. If the hunting were in an area with abundant Bushbuck and low trophy fees for them, you might get that as well -- but, the Sable would clearly break the bank. Sable are not a bargain basement add-on anywhere I'm familar with -- and with good reason, they are truly magnificent animals. When you get bored with life, start hunting dangerous game with a handgun.

Yes, you should be able to do a Buff-Leopard hunt and take a Bushbuck for that amount. Adding a Sable might make it difficult to stay under your cap as Sable is considered a "prime" species and can have a trophy fee more than a Leopard. Contact Tim Danklef at Safari Classics, they are the booking agents for Chifuti Safaris in Zimbabwe., as well as the producers of TAA. They have a Cape Buff-Leopard 14 day safari @ $1395 per day that includes PG. All in you'd be under your cap (excluding the Sable). It can be done. I was on a clean up hunt last year where buff, leopard, and sable were all available. Had I gotten all three, the cost would have been about $22500 excluding only the commercial airfares. Now, before you get all excited, let me tell you the bad news. You are going to have to abandon most of the control over operator, dates, PH, area and the like. You are going to have to be ready to go on short notice for a true cancellation in the early or mid season or at the very end of the season on a clean up hunt. If you are hunting at the end of the season, it may not be conducive to leopard hunting due to heat. You are going to have to wait for something to become available that has the species you want AND that fits into your budget. In that scenario, you are in a position of weakness as a consumer since you have so many static requirements for your hunt ie, buff, leopard, and sable and less than 25k. Might I suggest that you be on the lookout for a good deal on one or two of your three prime species and take that deal when it presents. I've been on buff/leopard cancellation hunts in a prime area, prime date, PH of my choice for less than $20k all in. Adding the sable is the hard part of your deal. And, you never know, you might get there and sable is available due to some prior hunter having not shot a sable. In fact, I think this has been the case on my last four safaris. Good luck. Will J. 100% true. The above is possible on an end of season deal where all the pieces fall into place. However, as you said, the OP has to be ready to go at a moment's notice AND be content to do quick research on the outfitter AND be OK with hunting whatever area happens to be offering the deal. Also, I think the time to do this sort of thing might be passing if the economy starts to recover. Might have been easier to find some deals like this a year or two ago. Two or three years from now, who knows.

yes it can be done, choose 3-4 outfitters that you would like go with and email your demand. 25K all in . They will call you sooner or later. I did a double leopard 21 days with plainsgame under 25K in 2010 if I remember correct.

I would suggest not trying to do to much on one hunt. I think you could do very well and get in hunt for Buff and Leopard for less than your budget. Then use the left over for seed money for your next trip to hunt a Sable. That way you have another trip to look forward to. And since you've been there you know that YOU will always want to go back "JUST ONE MORE TIME" . If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem.

I'm glad to see the possibilities are there for successful last minute bookings. I have to do it this way because of work commitments this year. Funny but the booking agents I talked to (not but a few I will admit) are all into the "you need to commit early to have a chance" routine. First I can't and second sounds like I will get a better deal by waiting. +1 one on the Zambia on a budget comment. Not possible from any of the outfitters I've check. Wish it was though--I'm sure it is awesome. Regards, Don Trust only those who stand to lose as much as you do when things go wrong.
