I would like to try to hunt in Ethiopia. I know if I were to shoot mountain Nyala it would cost the blue out of the sky...however I could settle with lesser expensive game like impalas and such. I have looked on the prices like Ethiopia VS south Africa. Why is Ethiopia sooooomuuuuuch moooore expeeeensive than even Tanzania? Travel expenses going to Ethiopia are the same as going to SA. So what are the costly side in Ethiopia which are not found in the rest of africa?? Confused

Jens, To sum it up as best I can.....

Logistics, the cost of developing and holding concessions, Limited Quotas (and in turn limit the number of safaris per year over which to recoup expenses), Bi-Yearly Game Census costs, High tax rates, Gov't set license prices, most of which add up to a very limted supply vs. a currently strong demand. As far as similar plains game goes, Ethiopia costs about the same as TZ; however, there are many species in Ethiopia that are hunted no where else.
BTW, there are no impala in Ethiopia..unless you count the odd Chevrolet. Smiler

Spent some time there flying all over the place during the 87/88 war. I really liked the place, likely more than anywhere I've been in Africa. Sure would love to hunt mt. Nyala. Price will, however prevent it, but I'd love to return. Hardest working people I've ever seen in Africa and some of the world's most beautiful women.
