Abbey had a real attitude problem: He arrogantly believed to his death that he was superior and wiser than we mere mortals. He also felt he and those who shared his beliefs were above the law, as evidenced by his publicly admitted abuse of banned substances and his regular encouragement of illegal and sometimes violent dissent “for the sake of political rebellion.â€

The crap he wrote about the alleged evils of everything he disagreed with helped give rise to such terrorist groups as Earth First! and the U.S. branch of Animal Liberation Front, both of which have some of their roots in my hometown, I’m sorry to say.

His books were not all that he wrote. Abbey was a frequent author of letters to the editors of our local papers. He was especially hateful whenever anything having to do with hunting was presented in print in any manner other than disdain.

I could predict -- even before they were published -- when to expect a blistering letter from Abbey in response to one of my bi-weekly outdoors columns. I remember that he was extremely vitriolic when I eulogized a popular taxidermist whose sudden death shocked and saddened local hunters and anglers. The man’s poor widow was deeply hurt by Abbey’s venomous comments about her dead husband in particular and all taxidermists in general.

Edward Abbey certainly was not a man to be admired by hunters.

Bill: Couldn't agree with you more. he was the typical arrogant Liberal who felt most of us were too ignorant to help ourselves and would be better served to be subservient and dependent to big government...kinda like liberal democrats. jorge

Dear Bill,

I tried to get back to you on your private message email but it didn't work. Not quite sure how this thing works yet.

VBR,

Jorge,

Sometimes I think you truly WORK to reach new heights of idiocy.

Best,

John

JTG: Look you stand for just ABOUT everything I am against and what I believe to be right, honorable and just . I firmly believe your politics and philosophy are disastrous for what our country stands for. It's your right to believe and say what you want. I'll do my best to ignore you from now on, but I certainly do hope you stay over there in Egypt where I'm sure you are appreciated. Ijust hope they don't think all Americans are like you. jorge ( EDITED)

...and therefore you are a shithead no matter what I write, even if you have NO KNOWLEDGE of the subject. Have you actaully READ Abbey? I doubt it. Hell, I may just decide to argue that Bush is a very capable president one day just to watch your immediate reaction to dispute it! rotflmo

Best,

John

P.S. "Honor" is not killing innocents from the relative safety of a cockpit. It wasn't then and still isn't!

No, not EVERYTHING you write, just most of it. Now you're accusing me of killing innocents. Calling me and my profession dishonorable shows your complete ignorance on the subject AND YOUR political leanings.

Regarding Abbey, you're right, almost; I read something once and after the first paragaph, it went to the same place your posts go, the shitcan. Anybody that recommends(along with your socialist postings) that the 375 H&H needs to be "slowed down" to ensure better performance, BELONGS there. jorge

PS: I support the President on a whole host of issues, but I also have some significant disagreements as well. j
