The whole issue of global warming & climate change is not just a straight forward political issue but a deeply philosophical one.

First of all Science is man made. Scientific debates and arguments have been going on for a long time.

Again at a philosophical level, many "Positivists" automatically assume that anything Scientific must be true and finite. Cut & dry. Black & white ... get the picture.

Some Social Scientists would point out that it was philosophical discourse and systematisation that lead to scientific rules, laws and processes being established. The fundamental point being that science itself is relative and imprecise by its very definition.

But Science being man made, the rules are set by men. Changed and twisted and manipulated by men. The spin is spun by men using media and coercion.

I remember reading an article a few years ago about a company that was marketing weight loss formulae as well as health build up formulae. A nutritionist looked deeper into the ingredients and showed in the article that the two formulae did not differ much!

Coming to climate change & global warming - we know that global warming is a fact. The average temperatures have got higher. The polar ice caps have got smaller. The Himalayan ice caps and snow line have gone higher. We do not have an agreement on why or how this has happened.

What is also a fact (but does not get included in the discussion) is that the level of smog & dust has gone up incredibly. This has created "global dimming"! Yes we cannot see as far away now as we could 50 years ago ... etc. This increase in fine particles of matter in the atmosphere also filters the sun's rays. The argument then is that we would be having far greater "Global warming" if we did not have the dimming effect!

If we were to agree that the smog & dust (leading to global dimming) is caused by human activity, them what is causing the warming?

Climate ... we can talk about that another time!
