I just succumbed to IDS comments on the Sabatti 450/400 in cabelas Iddaho, and ordered it. Cannot find factory ammo; any ideas? I did get reloading componenets, any ideas on loads to duplicate factory ballistics? Thanks IDS (I think!)

For Hornady ammo, mostly softs, try Buffalo Arms in Idaho and Discount gun Mart in San Diego...both have shipped to me in the last month. Try Google "450-400 3" ammo" these should come up. If not, PM me and I can give you phone numbers, etc.
I am sure that Westley Richards in Bozeman with have WR ammo, and of course Galazan has Kynoch, new by Kynamco.
Good luck...I am sighting next week for Moose in Alberta and Elk in Idaho wth my Ruger No1...sold my Jeff...bad thing to do!!

did you check the Boise Cabela's?

IIRC they had some on Tuesday afternoon. That is, if CCMDOC did not buy it all with the rifle.

Rich

just looked. Buffalo has both DGS and DGX Hornady. $75 and $79 per twenty.

I have recently opened a sporting goods store. I will be reordering and restocking ammo today and will be glad to check with my suppliers and see if they have any available. At any rate I will get some on order. If there is anything else special that AR members are having trouble getting, especiallly dangeous game bullets, I will try to located it for them.

You're not saying you ordered MY Sabatti 450/400 from the Boise Idaho Cabelas, are you? Eeker Rick W told me there was only one and it was going to be shipped to me tomorrow. beer If they've sold it to you, I am going to have to have my buddy Rich open a big can of "Whoop-Ass" on the whole lot of them. Mad

And no, I didnt buy any factory ammo from them - maybe I should have seeing that there are no cases to be had at the moment. coffee

Well, in any event, good luck with your new Sabatti 450/400. From everything I have read here on AR, it is a great round and i trust we will both be happy with it.

ccmdoc, NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT! I wouldnt dare!
This is from idaho, but not boise. lehi or similar, forget the name.
all contributors, many thanks for the suggestions re ammo.
Any suggestions for factory duplicate loads? Ive ordered the Hornady bullets, though I plan to use NF solids for my next tuskless hunt with CCM.(excuse for buying the rifle!)
Wife doesnt know yet, I plan to add the cost to my annual life insurance policy payment!

POST Falls ID, up near Spokane, Washington!!
They had one in Lacey/Olympia WA Labor Day weekend, also a 500NE. I don't like the funky humped critter on the top lever!!...other than that, a pretty fine double!!

470Eddy,

I can fix that thing on the safety...

Ship it and a hundred rounds of ammunition and I will have it done and on the way back to you in 90 days or a bit less.

Whew, that was a close one Eeker

I'll be working on a few loads and I am a big fan of NF so it will be among them. In addition, I will be working on some "plinking" loads that shoot to same POA. All as soon as I have components and finish moving into the new house.

BTW - that is a FANTASTIC idea - adding cost to life insurance policy. Of course my wife, having been stuck with me for 30 years, will immediately figure it out, knock me off, collect on the policy and bring me back because she didn't get "her money's worth".

CCMDOC, IDS, this is indeed a new idea: addding cost to life insurance. If you dont blow the whistle, I will patent it! should fund some new safari's!
I've been married for 30 yrs too, same gal, (No one else would put up with me, I think!) But she has little patience for more guns! Thinks 3 safe fulls are enuff! (what an idea, ha ha!)I am happy to hold up people like IDS, SAARIKID, and you as examples.
(what if you were married to these guys?)my favorite line
seriously, would appreciate loading data forthe rifle to duplicate factory ballistics and hopefully regulation

Please don't introduce your wife to mine - the jig would surely be up! Eeker

As soon as I have somethin useful, I'll passit along.

Good luck and remember what a good friend you are - storing all those guns for other people and co-workers who don't have safes. Wink

My gun is regulated for the old 3" 55 gr Cordite load.

I use 55 grs of IRM 3031 and Fed 215 primers with Woodleighs.

I know there will be somebody that jumps on here and will scream that IRM 3031 is too fast etc. etc. I got the Cordite = IRM 3031 recipe 20 years ago from an old double gun guru, and have outstanding success with it. It gives me right at 2000 fps, and regulates so well that you can cover 4 shots from 50 yards with silver dollar.

I spoke with a helpful contact at Hornady about 10 days ago when looking for 450/400 ammo. After reviewing their manufacturing schedule, he said he thought they would be shipping it in in mid-October.
