Hi Guys:

Anybody on the other side of the pond that can help me. My box of trophies, 10 backskins, skulls and horns are sitting at Maple Freight. They said they are waiting for some new regulations that were passed, that have to be met before they can ship. Anybody know what the hell they are talking about? I can't get a straight answer from them.

I hunted in Zim last June almost 11 months ago, with ZimAfrica. I am beside myself with worry.

Regards... Jim P.

Jim,

I think you should put a phone call in to your safari company that you hunted with. They should or better yet, they will get the information you need.

I have a feeling the "new" regs are a approval or stamp the bank has to put on your paper work. This procedure is to varify that the trophies fees were paid. Just another thing to slow down the process of getting your trophies home.

I just had a problem with paper work not being with the shippment, emailed my safari company, they got right on the shipper and the papers are now in order! Get in touch with the safari company!!

if I can help you any more give me a yell

I've notice that it's been taking about 1 year to get trophies back, starting around 2003. That's when these new regs took place....

Have you tryed to phone them? Might be worth the call instead of emailing

Not to worry. I had the same issues back in 01. IT's not Maple Freight's fault. They took my raw stuff to Kwiktan in RAS, but they spent a good deal of time in Zim awaiting those damned papers. It's africa without colonial rule. jorge

Apparently there is some sort of regulation about the outfitter needing to deposit the foreign currency for the hunt so that the tropies can be shipped.

I find telephoning works far better than emails.

PA Hunter, don't worry you will get your trophies. Maple Freight had my trophies from July of last year. I just recieved them in April. I got the same answer from Maple Freight as you did.

I hunted with Russ Broom Safaris in august and I recieved my trophys two weeks ago. In the old days It took two months to get them. I emailed russ broom when time started to drag on and they took care of it.

I just back from Newark airport, cleared my trophies from last years safari. didn't use Maple Freight but it looks like they are all getting slower due to the new regs. Everything arrived in excellent order! I'm like a kid on Xmas morning unpacking it!!! clap

I hunted last May and just received my shipment from Maple freight two weeks ago. It is agony waiting, especially when you don't get good response (or ANY response), but eventually the shipment seems to happen. I called my PH for help in March, which seemed to help, but it may have just been that my time had finally arrived. I know it doesn't make much sense, but continue to gently remind them, and I suspect it will get shipped at least sometime this summer.
Good Luck,

Bill

Hi Guys:

Well I am more than gently reminding my booking agent and ZimAfrica. It seems they are looking for the paper that shows the trophy fees were paid to the bank or govermnet. I guess they have to get a copy from ZimAfrica?

This is the second time my trophies went awry. The first time from Tanzania, my trohies were sent in the same box with another guy I hunted with, unknown by me. When the crate hit the states, I live in PA.. it was sent to a Taxi in Virginia. It took me three months to find out my Trophies were mixed up with this other so called friends. I had to threaten the guy in VA to make sure my trophies got back to me. I told the Taxi....Tannery in VA that I was close enough to drive down and shoot his ass if I didn't get them back. He miraculously found them, and they were returned.

Now this holdup with Zim.... If I didn't love Africa so much I would give it up and hunt else where. I am getting tired of all the hassles getting my trophies back to the states.

Maybe next year I will try New Zealand for a Red Stag instead of Mr. Spots....

Regards... Jim P.
