Does anyone know a good source for large caliber cartridge belts for DG hunting? I like the Westley Richards ones but they are essentially out of everything right now, and I'm in immediate need.

What other brands have those with experience used and been happy with?

I had a couple of belts for .375 and .470 made by Dingo Gun Products (Australia), that were well made (and inexpensive), but I sold them off since my culling plans fell through.

If you don't mind canvas belts, try Trader Keith's.

I use several products from www.murraycustomleather.com

I have 3 myself from Murray. They will make them how you want them. They work really well.

Galco has some nice ones, too.

I have a Murray Leather cartridge belt and love it.

I have several Galco cartridge holders that slide on to a belt and they are well made and I really like them.

Africase also makes several quality alternatives. I just received a two round belt slide to hold a couple of softs for when I'm elephant hunting or buff hunting to keep them seperated from the solids in the Murray belt so I don't do something really stupid like shoot an elephant with a soft.

Non-Traditional, synthic will not turn your cases that funky blue color. Inexpensive! Save your money for throphy fees and whisky! You can get several of the cartridge holders and preload them for your various rifles. Solids on one side, Weldcores on the other side. Change out is quick.

i used westley richards leather ammo belts on my safarie.

See this canvas one at Cabelas by Boyt Harness. It seems well made and much cheaper than leather [save your money for trophies].

Or see also this one in leather from Jeff's Outfitters, It is way nicer than the Westley Richards version at half the price!

I have two, each a custom with flaps to keep the African sun off the rounds. One for plains game (.358 STA), the other for Dangerous game (.416 Rem). Kept them on the same belt, worked well for me. Good shooting.

I have the Cabelas one referenced above. I love it.

Trader Keiths come in leather or elastic shell loops. They look pretty good and if I didnt have a leather one made as a gift I would buy one.

Thanks everyone! I knew you'd all have some good thoughts. I've order the Boyt Harness ones from Cabelas. I'll see how they work out.

I used the Uncle Mike's nylon belts for several safaris. I carried 20 rnds. of 465 or 458 Lott in them. After long walks I could feel the weight on my hips and back. I couldn't wait to get it off when I got back to the cruiser. I also noticed rust on the steel jacketed solids and corrosion on the cases after a particularly sweety day a field. For the last two years I have been using a Westley Richards canvas belt that also carries 20 cartridges. No more rust or corosion. Also I have found that when I get back to camp or after several hours on the road I still had the cartridge belt on. It has surprised me that I didn't notice that I still wore the belt. Much much more comfortable to carry then the nylon belts. I believe it is due to the WR belt being wider and distributing the weight better. The down side is that the belt is so wide you can't hang a knife or GPS case on it.

The Cabelas belt is comfortable however if you lose cartridges out of it as another hunter and myself did (375 hh cal.)you may try soaking it in a bucket of water.

It worked for us.

I'll add that like 456H&H with his WR belt I was always forgetting to take off my Murray Leather belt. I'm a lefty and Murray made mine reversed for me and also to carry twelve rounds. The majority of the belt is 2" so I can carry a credit card size camera, if photos need to be taken before the truck arrives. I also carried a small multi tool. This year I will add a two cartridge holder from Africase to carry a couple of softs and keep the softs seperated from the twelve solids.

Thanks for the photos. The canvas WR belt looks different than I thought it might. I do like how exposed the cartridges are though for easy access.

Anyone have one of the Chifuti belts? I understand Will's comments about sweating in them but they sure look snazzy. An ele belt sounds pretty good to me and the prices are no more than those being discussed here.

Yukon Delta - I have one of Chifuti's elephant belts in black as well as three of their gun cases in ele, buff, and hippo. All are made in Zim and are first rate construction and reasonably priced for what you get. Last I knew they were thinking of stopping supplying them. Check with Tim Danklef ( his email is on Chifuti's website). Tim had all their inventory in Dallas.

I can't speak for Rusty but I ordered mine online.

CH- Thanks just ordered a couple of slides and a belt -- will see how that all works -- definitely do like the synthetic aspect -- don't get me wrong-- leather has its applications and is the standard by which a lot of things are judged - but synthetics are my choice for quite a few things these days-- like the elastic grip on the shells -- will not let one loose their ammo at the most inopportune time.
