I posted this in the photography section but there has been no one in it all morning? Does anyone know of a high quality trail camera that will take a SIM card from South Africa and Namibia? Covert Scouting Cameras used to make their Code Black camera but their 2016 update removed the SIM card capability. Are you asking about cellular connectivity? If so, most any device that utilizes a SIM cellular will work with the MTC and MTN networks in Namibia and SA respectively. Both have GSM, LTE G3 and G4 capabilities, however coverage in Namibia gets thin once you get outside of the main towns and hamlets. You can pick up prepaid sims on virtually every street corner in Namibia. ___________________ Just Remember, We ALL Told You So.

What I'm trying to get is a high quality trail camera that will accept a SIM card. Every manufacturer I've contacted tells me there's won't work in SA or Namibia. For cellular connectivity? If so, every cellular device that accepts a GSM, LTE G3 and G4 SIM works in Namibia and South Africa. All you need is to purchase a prepaid SIM card and it will interface into the cell grid. ___________________ Just Remember, We ALL Told You So.

That much I understand, every camera manufacturer tells me that their phones are preprogrammed for certain cell connections (AT&T, etc.) and do not accept SIM cards anymore. I have cameras that are programmed that way. Bushnell to be specific. No idea what will work in Namibia.

I am using Spypoint cameras in South Africa. They are more trouble than what its worth. Syncing with the camera and or getting to get the newer 2nd camera to work has been a huge headache even after a lot of correspondence with Spypoint. Another thing to keep in mind is that your cellphone signal coverage is limited or weak in hunting areas especially with regards to data connection for the camera to connect. Hope this helps... Its a frustration for me being 6500km away. Maybe its just the brand I use and other brands might work better but it will all depend on signal strength. If you do find one that work please let me know as I would also be intrested. Flojd, Have a look at the Covert trail cams. A friend of mine in South Africa has been using one for a couple of years and he is happy with it. Might become expenive with sending of MMS photos when you have a lot of bird movements around. I'm using a Scout Guard SG565F. The camera is great and always with me, whether I visit Kruger National Park, South Africa, or Corbett National Park, India or Germany's Black Forest. www.kapstadt.de/schindlers-africa www.jim-corbett.de

Gerhard, I've talked to the Covert Scouting Cameras a dozen times. Their Code Black camera worked great in South Africa, Namibia and Canada until they re-designed it this year and took out the SIM capability and installed AT&T only software.
