I just got a call from Dig at Vintage Guns who has been spectating on a friends Ele hunt in the Okavango. His friend took a 70lb/72lb Bull Ele on day 11 of 16 after looking at 80 bulls. They had to face down a number of mock charges but one in particular came very close to needing "intervention". The story will be in the double gun journal. The bul was shot with a Manton Double rifle if my memory serves me correctly. I don't nkow why I'm so excited about all this as I wasn't even there but it is nice to know a friend has had an awesome experience and is coming home safe. I'll see if I can post some pics at the weekend when I get them from him of the Ele. Rgds, FB

AS exited as you are about the ele you make it much worse for us as well to wait now for the photos. You are a mean man. Next time remember do not post a interesting story without photos. Rather wait please. Frederik Cocquyt I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

Ah! A Manton! I've shot a few buffalo, but the one that was really hunted hard, eventually fell to a Manton! Any underleaver Mantons in .577 for sale from Vintage Guns? Just daydreaming! Andrew, When I start day dreaming about such things and mention it to Dig he usually turns up with the subject of my dreams, (at least where guns are concerned...) He took his old 12g Thompson hammer gun with hm for some guinnea's and Francolin and I thin was using an old drilling for the plains game he took. A Red Lechwe and a couple of Impala I think. Good news that Dig's mate got a nice bull. He had prompted a long thread on the other board as the two were planning the hunt. Hope his photos do justice to the days in the bush. Regards

The Okavango - isnt that suppose to be the prime Elephant area in Northern Botswana? Africa is so vast I always have a hard time trying to keep up with the best spots for the DG. I sure hope you publish the long version of the hunt with lots of photos. I love living vicariously through these stories.

FB, Thanks for the link. Sounds as if both Michael and Dig had good hunting. The thread is Dig's and it's entitled Old Guns to Botswana at Doublegunshop.com if this url doesn't work. Regards, Tim http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=...69&page=40#Post81769
