Limpopo Valley Hunting Safaris has a 14 Day elephant hunt available along the Limpopo River for USD 15,000 (day fees and trophy fee). The Bull is expected to be from 25-45 pounds. The hunt will take place between September and December of this year.

I have hunted with them twice (plains game) and had an excellent experience both times. My first trip report is at:
http://www.9mmlargo.com/africa/day01.htm

The second one is here on AR

I'm not an agent for LVHS, just posting this as a favor to a friend. If you are interested, let me know and I'll put you in touch with Jaco to work out the details.

Heck of a reasonable price... is this a PAC or trophy/importable elephant?

Jaco said "the trofee will be a bull between 25 to 45 pounds", but I will confirm today that it is in fact a trophy and not PAC hunt.

That's fairly cheap depending on what it is. I haven't been in that area...it's mostly ranches right?

Haven't been able to get in touch with Jaco this weekend, he may be running around in Zim this weekend or something. I'll try again tonight (I live in Korea).

Yes, that part of Limpopo is mostly ranches, the hunt will be along the Limpopo River and will encompass several ranches that border the river. These are Botswana Elephant that come into RSA at night to feed; sometimes lingering during the day. I've spent lots of time along the river in that area and it will not be like shooting fish in a barrel. Lots of dry channels and vegetation.

Just received an email from Jaco concerning the hunt.

It is a CITIES hunt and the trophy is exportable. His brother (also a PH) saw four bulls last week in the 40lb range.

Helluva deal, almost too good to be true. This would be half to a third the cost of most exportable trophy hunts.

This hunt is still available. We had a hunter lined up, but he has disappeared to Namibia without paying the deposit. Anyone interested? Please someone take this hunt, otherwise I'm going to have to go to Africa and hunt it. I promised myself I wouldn't go back until next summer....

Is this a private ranch hunt as most RSA hunts are? How big is the property? I am not against ranch hunts, but you should disclose if this is really a free range elephant hunt or not.

Corecpa,

The ele will be free ranging coming from Botswana. Maybe it will be behind a fence that it will break trough on a farm in RSA but as they come from Botswana they do what they please. Come in and out as they like.
Most of them originate from the TULI block.

It would not be like hunting in ZIM or any other big place as you will hunt in in a narrow strip of land that borders the Limpopo river. But it could ghet quite exiting ast the TULI ele's are known for aggresion. Unfortunately most of them have small ivory but for the price you come out for the expereince and not the ivory.

Lucklily it's a CITES ele and not PAC otherwsie you are forced to shoot the first reasonable adult you see and will not be able to pick.

Hope the info helps I've got nothing in this deal. But if someone from AR decides to take up this deal I would gladly come and film the hunt for $125 US per day if you wish. Including editing. In the 14 days you will also be able to hunt some good plainsgame as well as the elusive bushbuck if you look hard you got get one over 15" easily.

This is a helluva deal if all is as advertised. $15K all in (daily fees and trophy fee) for an exportable bull? Incredible deal.

Considering the true trophy average of bulls takenaround Hwange in Zim, A 40 lb bull for 15k total is a gift.

Safari Hunt,

Ok, you have cleared it up and are upfront about the area. I have spent about 50 days riding in that area with Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris over the last four years. I know how agressive the Tuli elephants are as I have been chased and charged by them several times (luckily my horse has been faster).
One of the Mashatu elephant researchers has told me that some unethical RSA game ranchers will intentionally entice elephants inside their property with oranges and then close the gates behind them. They will then very quickly sell a problem elephant hunt. She claims to not be against hunting, but has definite bunny hugger tendencies. I think she has become too emotionally attached to the Tuli elelphants she studies, so I don't know whether to believe her or not. However, since this hunt has a CITIES permit then these conditions probably do not apply. I was suspicious as the price did seem to good to be true. A forty pounder in that area would be exceptional. A thirty pounder would be considered a very good trophy for the Tuli.

You can borrow money, but you can't borrow time. Go now.

Yes, as I stated earlier; the hunt will be along the Limpopo River. It won't be a 'canned hunt', but won't be days of tracking elephant through the bush.
