it is unbelivable that china stands for so much threat to the wildlife by buying animal parts Mad . it would be may be a good idea to not buying anymore junk from china until they stop this at their home country.

And "between the lines"

"...The ivory trade has been banned since 1989, but illegal sales have thrived with demand being fuelled largely by the Far East." - So the "ban" doesn't work, largely as we know due to poor enforcement as a result of sparse funding.

"...The KWS says it believes a one-off sale of ivory in South Africa last November, in which Japanese and Chinese traders took place, has helped increase demand for ivory and thus poaching." - They STILL think everyone else should follow their failed policy!

"...Kenya's elephant population has doubled to over 30,000 since CITES banned the ivory trade...There were an estimated 167,000 elephants in Kenya in 1973" - Between the end of sport hunting, which provided plenty of funding and boots on the ground to combat poaching till the (commercial ivory) ban the herds were nearly wipped out and have increased as a result of the ban BUT nowhere near the levels either in Kenya when sport hunting was allowed, or other countries allowing SPORT HUNTING and reaping the financial benefits of it to protect the elephants! INSANE, absolutely insane. horse

The color and size of the ivory pictures tells me that is not form TZ or Kenya but more likely DRC. The average poached TZ ivory is more like 20 to 30 pounds weight per tusk......from my experience
