I just wired some money to the taxidermist in RSA and was rather shocked at the fee--$40 to wire $600. Should I be looking for a new bank, or is that about standard?

Art,

I have paid $40 for international wires to both Africa and Canada.

The receiving bank in Canada screwed it up, but the Africans got it right.

I have an employee in South America whom I pay with an ATM card for a second business account. I move his pay and expenses in there every two weeks, and he takes it out. Painless and cheap. This would be a pain in the ass for taxidermy, but if you move money internationally, it is a painless way to do it.

Arts,

Fortunately the RSA taxidermist I used for dip/pack took credit cards, but I had to wire the shipping cost to the expediter there. My bank, Wells Fargo, charged me $35. So you're in the ballpark. -TONY

Our FOREX bank in Zambia also charges us US $25 to receive the money from a T/T so the banks are creaming it both to send and to receive ....

If someone is able to set up a FOREX exchange business privately and charge say a flat rate of $15 per tranaction then they can make a small fortune with volume transactions ..

Regards, Peter

I run my business account through my Credit Union and they charge $30 for overseas wires. For paying your safaris deposits, some of my outfitters have accounts here in the states so such fees are saved by the clients. Most of them do not. So you'll incure that cost when you pay your deposit.

Most of your RSA shippers take credit cards. If you use Bachman Megafreight in RSA (who I recommend and use) there is no issues faxing them your credit info. I take care of this for my own clients.
