Hi all. I'm considereing seeking a long term assigment in Lagos. I was wondering what hunting oppurtunities Nigeria has to offer. Also wondering how safe it is to travel to the more rural regions. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the 270 won't do it the .338 will, if the 338 won't I can't afford the hunt!

No disrespect, but I'm wondering why you are considering a long term posting to a country where you do not already know the answer to your second question. 114-R10David

I have spent a little time in that sewer of a country. Unless you are making about $1 million per year, I would not go there. It was not safe and I would not even consider hunting there. It was easily the worst country, with the worst people of any place on this planet I have been to. I would pick Pakistan and Yemen over that place.

No disrespect, but what kind of a shitass answer is that? It sounds as if to me that he is doing a little research to try answer his question. Wayfaring Stranger, I know nothing of hunting in Nigeria personally, but dogcat pretty much echos what has been posted on here in years past regarding hungting there. "...Africa. I love it, and there is no reason for me to explore why. She affects some people that way, and those who feel as I do need no explanation." from The Last Safari

Not very safe. Lots of oil workers kidnapped there. Sort of place you need Proper Security. And good pay. Good luck!

Now that Angola has calmed down, if they ever give the world an enema, Nigeria is where they'll stick the tube. Or Somalia.

I've visited scenic Nigeria a number of times and made a considerable number of inquiries about hunting and it just doesn't seem like it's possible. Ground travel there is extremely dangerous outside of places like Lagos. People fly, driving is just not worth the risk, and flying is no picnic. Only place I've been where I've consistently had an armed escort except during daylight hours in central Lagos. Having said all that, I have colleagues and friends that live there and they do OK as long as they take proper precautions. Make sure the money is right, that's the only thing that justifies working there. Never worry about theory as long as the machinery does what it's supposed to do.

Thanks for the useful input. I'am finding the same so far. At least it puts me closer to some good hunting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If the 270 won't do it the .338 will, if the 338 won't I can't afford the hunt!

I think I heard that Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa.

Been living in Nigeria for the past 14 years. Although I do agree with the statement above: "It was easily the worst country, with the worst people of any place on this planet I have been to.", I've had pretty little problems around here. I lived in Kano, Abuja, Lagos, and spent considerable time in the Niger Delta (expat-kidnap country, and the worst place with the most despicable people I've ever been to). All comes down to your attitude, like everywhere in the world: integrate fast, pick the feel of the place and people, talk the talk, and you have no problems. Stand out as Johnny-Just -Come, and the rats are out to chew on you... Ah, and you can hunt in Nigeria. Takes some ropes to pull and people to know, but can be done. PM me for more info, I'll gladly help you in whatever you may need around. Philip
