WoodhitsNRA Hunting Launch
This is the launch of NRA Hunting, part of a comprehensive effort to change the conversation when it comes to humanity's role in the natural world. The content, both video and written, is excellent. The videos are now running on Fox News Channel and NRATV.

vvreddyExcellent!! I think their size, political savvy and take no prisoners attitude will be a big boost fighting back at the antis.

LHeym500My biggest complaint with the NRA ads are that they do not buy air time on networks whose audience is not already predisposed to support hunting. I want to see these ads on nbc, cbs, ESPN, and local affiliates of thoses networks in hostile states.

PoyntmanGood for them!! Well done.
Education needs to get out on both the positive attributes of hunting as well as "out" the perversion and distortion in organizations like the HSUS, PETA, ALF etc

My initial thought as well but I'm sure there are some anti-hunters monitoring Fox news.
Perhaps the other stations also resist selling airtime for such a message.

WoodhitsStep one in a campaign such as this is to educate and motivate your base.

larryshoresGentlemen:
I have posted about this before. The NRA has the Hunters Leadership Forum. The NRAHLF is behind all of this as well as some other things that might not be so clear. They are the only hope that I see.
I got involved in a serious way a couple of years ago. Personally, I believe the election would have turned out differently were it not for the NRA.
I will continue to support DSC. I will continue to support SCI. Unfortunately, I do not think either of them have the horsepower that the NRA has. I hope they will all work together for the good of our sport.

1BigDeerI believe Larry has it
EXACTLY right. Hunters need to get behind this!

My first thought as well. I wouldn't think the liberal press, which is about all of them except FOX news, would accept an NRA ad for any amount of money. I'd love to be wrong...

nopride2I doubt we will ever see these videos on the major networks. They are too close to the liberal line.

WoodhitsAll of those expressing interest in broader ad buys should be making contributions, media doesn't come cheap.

LHeym500I do not know the inner workings of Fox ad buying department, but I would bet a wisdom tooth ad time on fox is some of the most expensive across the big networks. The more ratings a show/net work gets the more they can charge.
So, if they can afford Fox they can afford anyone else. Some networks as bad as they may need cash may say no. Most will not. Everyone's favorite color is green.
As long as we keep talking to thoses predisposed to agree with us, we might as well be talking to no one. Hell, call the History Channel for all I care, but Fox, Sportsmans , Outdoor Channel, and the fishing Network etc are not reaching the eyes and ears we need.
My honest take. You may disagree.
14 April 2017, 07:06
larryshoresI think you are right .
There have been some ads aired in liberal bastions. For example anti-HSUS ads.

WoodhitsI have spent my entire adult life working on lobbying/advocacy campaigns. If you don't fire up your base first, you are pissing in the wind. We have tens of millions of hunters in the US who have no idea what threats we face. We must start with them. By motivating those individuals and arming them with facts, we can create an army of advocates.
14 April 2017, 07:39
billrquimbyI wish facts could convince our enemies (or even the few who truly are undecided about hunting) that what we do is:
a. An honorable tradition.
b. A proven method of conservation.
I could list more, but it would be great if the NRA could accomplish just these two things in its public relations campaign.
Unfortunately, it's not going to happen.

CougarzOne thing that would be helpful is to quit putting people into neat buckets. All the talk about "their" media or people vs "our" media or people does nothing to further the cause of hunting.
Fact is most people don't stand firmly in either camp unless something is put in front of them that makes them react in favorable way. So firing up the faithful though important is only a very small first step. Besides I for one don't listen to the drivel that Faux News puts out.
I find it kind of odd in fact to believe that someone needs to be in a certain political camp to be a hunter in the first place. I have a few friends who are far from conservative who do hunt. There is no contradiction as far as they're concerned in being liberal minded and a hunter.
The unfortunate fact in today's very polarized world that you must be one of "us" inorder to enjoy some activity. This is one of the beliefs that will doom a project like this from the start.
A better way would be to leave the political BS out of it and just focus on the goal. That being to demonstrate that hunting and conservation plays an important part in wildlife management.

LHeym500Sir: I believe hunters "even big game hunters" can be politically liberal/progressive. The simple facts are most are not and the policy or planks on the platform do not lend someone of that political ideology to view hunting favorable. Those are conclusory statements, but I think it is self evident.
I do not care what a persons party affiliation is. However, it is undeniable one party, or at least one segment, attacks our right to firearm ownership and seeks to end all hunting. These sub groups even send me literature trying to compassionately explain why I am the devil. Hey at least they are trying.
Now you have to assume that literature is also going to households that eat meat, but do not hunt or own firearms. The parents my say that's awful what is the price of gas, but a teen or reading age child will say when I grow up I going to help end this. I agree with your critique that being on Fox News may also overly politicize the issue. But it is unescapeable the issue is a political one.
These NRA ads and few good hunting shows/DVDs that do not get seen by anyone but hunters or voters who do not care do not help us. If you cannot buy airtime on national networks, better yet buy it on local affiliates in places people living in large(er) cities will see it.
That is why the NRA makes me want to pull my hair out by not reaching out to those folks. Every time I am at a gun show I give the poor rep this speech. I am always polite.
The world I touch is very small, but the last non hunter I converted was a PH.D. conservative woman who did not appreciate hunting. You know how I did it, I invited her to an elk and deer venison diner. She will never be a hunter, but now she calls me wanting to know when I am going again, and she never misses a meal.
Same thing for my African American female law professor. She hated guns. She will never be an absolutist, but when I left law school she had a Glock 17. Of course, we were in Cinncinatti. It was not like I turned a NYC person. My ultimate goal. Theses two are also not NRA members.
Sorry, the base is and has been fired up. There just is not enough of them. Thankfully, most voters have "more important" things to care about than bears, wolves, deer, etc., or we would already be gone. Expand or die.

Cazador humildeMy son-in-law has a media company that helped the NRA with part of this launch. If anybody can connect to the city-dwelling, non-hunting millennials, it's this kid...'cause he is one.

NakihunterTrump could do that. His sons are serious hunters and they have the money & the high profile!

LHeym500 and others who are questioning the NRA:
I distinctly remember when Australia outlawed all private ownership of firearms (not sure of the year). I saw a very well done video that the NRA produced showing the destruction of the firearms and "warning" US citizens that it could happen here. The media in our area admitted in print and on TV that the NRA tried to BUY TIME on the major networks to air this and were REFUSED. The NRA is trying.

I just heard that president Trump is going to address the NRA's convention in Atlanta in May. It's good to have friends in high places.
