This may not be the right place for this question. Wondering who everyone is using for firearms insurance. Most homeowners will cover very little. My homeowners will only cover $4000 maximum, and a maximum of $1000 for a single firearm. Will appreciate any and all information

While they are not the cheapest, I use SIAI.

Eastern Insurance with Jack Richardson, in Pembroke Mass. The rates are 1/3 or less than NRA or SCI and the coverage is excellent. However, I've not had a claim. I have always used SIAI. I know that I would not go on an African hunt with expensive rifles and optics without gun insurance for sure. A number of years ago I had a very close encounter with Delta Airlines losing a brand new double rifle and my custom 375 H&H while flying from Vegas to Atlanta for a connection on to Jo'burg with SAA. Delta claimed that they could not find the two rifles that were in a brand new TuffPak until they were threatened by me with legal action and an immediate report to the feds on them losing two firearms during them being in their custody during transit. After raising hell all afternoon and all night with everyone connected with Delta, the TuffPak was discovered by Delta some hours later in a Florida airport and directly sent up to Atlanta, arriving just an hour before we left for Jo'burg. I am not Catholic, but when I saw that TuffPak arrive, I literally did the sign of the Cross. That convinced me to take out and use gun insurance every time.

I have been using Core-Vens. Which they write through travelers. But now It is time to renew my autos and homeowners and it is a bit less money to put it on my homeowners and just increase the personal property. I've gone through all of thier exclusions thoughouly and the only limit that is an issue for us is the jewelry. Mac

I had a firearms rider on my Farmers homeowners policy when burglars broke into our Tucson home and took 35 rifles and shotguns, including some high-end shotguns. pre-'64 Model 70s. several rare rifles, and three Pennsylvania longrifles I had spent close to 600 hours building. Unfortunately, my rider and homeowners policy totalled only $17.000, and that's what I got. Dumb me. I had taken out the rider more than 25 years ago and hadn't increased it as I acquired more guns and my long-owned guns increased in value. Even the insurance company's appraiser said my guns were worth at least $40,000. Bill Quimby

Thanks for all the replies. I hadn't really thought much about it till a few weeks ago. When I found out what the limits were on my policy I got sick.

I don't really want to put mine on my homeowner's, if for no other reason than privacy, and I don't trust general insurance companies. A company that regularly insures guns just makes more sense. I don't have any at the moment other than NRA and that is not much, have had it and need to get it again. So watching this thread closely to see what most think is best.

I've had NRA insurance for a long time and during that time I had 2 large claims - the first was a pair of Perazzi Trap Combos (both SCO Grade) worth about about $16K each (at the time). They were stolen from the locked trunk of my car at the state trap-shoot. The only hitch I had with my claim was the adjuster ask me for some photos of the stolen guns - and I told him as soon the thieves returned them I'd be happy to take some for him. The underwriter at the time was Lloyd's of London and it took them about 3 weeks to have a check in my hand. About 10 years later I had a SCO Gold Extra Side Plate Perazzi Skeet Gun (39 gold inlays) stolen at the SouthWest Zone Skeet Shoot and having learned my lesson I sent lots of photos along with the claim. This time the remark was "That's a big claim for just one gun!" That check took about 2 weeks to arrive - payment in full. One thing to consider about getting a rider on your homeowner's insurance is that if you suffer a loss and make anykin of significant claim they will pay it and then will not renew it when the policy expires and if you need to go into a special pool of high risk underwriting your new homeowner's policy - if you can get one - will be multiples of what your current cost is and it will also raise other issues if you want to borrow money or finance any thihg - it's like wearing a cap that says "dead-beat on it.
