Not sure of the implications or how that fits into SCI strategy - I haven't been active with SCI in years.

Thoughts?

First, it is not SCI. It is the SCI Foundation a totally separate entity.

The powers that be decided that they did not want to be in the real estate business any longer. It is difficult to do humanitarian & conservation work with assets that are tied up in real estate. They had a lot tied up in real estate.

They recently sold a building in DC to SCI. All part of the same plan.

There is nothing more to it.

Larry -

When I was heavily involved in SCI, there was a program that send public school teachers to the ranch for a week of outdoor education. I really took the lead on that one and put lots of effort into finding the right teacher to send.

After their week, they all had to agree to come to a BOD meeting and debrief the board as to what their take was on the week.

I think that was a very focused program, sad to see the ranch go.

Alabama SCI awarded me a scholarship to the "American Wilderness Leadership School" at Granite Ranch in 1988, and I went there for one of the week-long student camps. It was the summer before I started the ninth grade. Quite the experience for a kid from rural Alabama. Changed my life.
