I am speaking to Charles Price about a leopard hunt in Natal SA next year. My first trip was with Charles in 02. Shot a really nice cat in Zambia this year. Looking for a toad. Anyone out there hunted Leopard in this area. I am told they have some big leopard in the northern mountains of SA. Any information would be helpful Thanks NRA LIFE MEMBER DU DIAMOND SPONSOR IN PERPETUITY DALLAS SAFARI CLUB LIFE MEMBER SCI FOUNDATION MEMBER

There's a few things you need to be careful of with Leopard hunts in RSA. Firstly the cats are considerably more educated than in most other parts of Africa which usually translates to a lower success rate than many other places and secondly, permits are only allocated after a draw and damn near every outfitter in the province applies to be included in that draw........ If I remember correctly, last year, KZN handed out less than a handful of (trophy) permits for the entire province. (2 or 3 I think?) How someone can predict they're going to get one of those permits a year in advance, I don't know..........

good points, I know they wont be the dumb ones. I wil inquire about the permits. This is the family trip, they don't do hunting camps just really nice lodges. I am trying to kill two birds with one stone. NRA LIFE MEMBER DU DIAMOND SPONSOR IN PERPETUITY DALLAS SAFARI CLUB LIFE MEMBER SCI FOUNDATION MEMBER

Rumour has it that when you want to start baiting and hunting leopards in KZN they turn vegeterian and eat cabbages. I hunted there in 2006 for leopard. My advice would be to go elsewhere, or consider hunting there for other trophies, but not leopard.

Couldn't you do the family safari thing in Namibia? Lots of quality Leopard and Lodges there.

There are plenty of camps, lodges areas and countries that offer comfortable/luxurious accommodation along with good hunting, including good Leopard hunting. One of the major factors is choosing a good catman. Without him, no matter where you hunt, you're chances of success are greatly reduced.

The success rate is average, the properties are small compared to other parts of South Africa, and there is a 99% chance you will shoot it with a light. But there is a chance that you will shoot a good leopard; if you are really looking for a truly massive leopard i wouldnt bet on Natal, there definitely are some shot there but not regularly enough to make it a destination of choice
