So I booked a DG hunt at the SCI show, and am wondering what reticle people prefer for DG. So is it cross hair or post?
I currently have a trijicon post sight 1-4x scope.

Thanks

You have exactly the "right" post in your Trijicon in my opinion. Use/used mine many times in Africa, can't beat it.

Swarovski Z6i 1-6 x24 CD-I reticle

I used to have a trijicon post on my 375 H&H - switched to Swarovski - it is worth the extra $1000.

Move the trijicon to an ar.

+1 on the Post trijicon

I used the same scope on my first hunt in 2012 and love it for hog hunting here in the states.

What Larry said! If you will be hunting Cape buffalo, the amber illumination shows up on the black animal better than the red! The red tends to get lost on a black target.

I've tried several different reticles on DG rifles including dots, posts, heavy cross hairs etc and I think the Trijicon post is undoubtedly my favorite.

I am a huge fan of the illuminated circle-dot reticle for DG. I consider it to be hands down the fattest reticle to bring the eye to the POI on DG and believe no other reticle can compare for use on a moving target - think wounded and escaping DG.

Trijicon post with tritium/fiber optic green triangle. I learned my lesson on a black buffalo at dusk with standard crosshairs. Worked out ok but never again!

Trijicon post and triangle. I have an older one with the red illumination but the amber is better.

As you can see from the varied replies, there is no " right" reticle ( or scope, or caliber, etc) for DG. You must choose what fits best for you. Always a good idea to ask what others like, and why, though.

I experienced the same. Go Trijicon and green dot!

The reticle is very shooting style specific.

The issue I had with the trijicon post was the aiming point is the tip of the triangle/post.

In real life hunting situations I tended to put the whole illuminated triangle/post on where I wanted the point of impact to be. I was shooting high.

With the Swarovski illuminated crosshairs and illuminated outer ring draws me into the target. I try and get the illuminated outer circle on the animal first and then try and get the illuminated crosshairs to point of impact.

The illuminated outer and crosshairs works much better for in all hunting situations. It suits my hunting/shooting style.

I have seen a significant improvement in my shooting/hunting/kill shots with the Swarovski.

I would look at bunch of different scope and see if you can shoot a few different scopes.

I think the scope is the single most important hunting equipment.

Back to packing for Burkina.

I think that it is user specific also.

I have tried the Trijicon reflex sights, red dots, German #4, Illuminated (Swaro) German #4, Kahles #4 illuminated, Trijicon illuminated BDC reticle (a custom set up on an ACOG), the Trijicon RMR, and a Swaro Circle dot illuminated in addition to plain heavy duplex crosshairs and fine crosshairs (including the mill dot illuminated nightforce stuff). Heck I even tried that burris firefly concept stuff.

The fastest was the illuminated circle dot.

The most accurate was the fine crosshairs.

So far, for me, the best overall compromise is the #4 illuminated swaro scopes.

Having said that, the only one that I would not hunt with is the plain fine crosshairs- too easy to lose them.

German No4 or German No1. Both have heavy posts for fast acquisition even in low light. tu2

I could not adjust to the post site either, so I put a Trijicon 1 x 4 30mm with the amber crosshairs on my 416. I think the Trijicon has pretty good glass and the amber showed up very well against everything I stuck it up against, the crosshairs being more user friendly for me. I have a buddy who is using one of the illuminated Burris Fast Fire's and swears up and down about it. I tried it and have to admit its good

I have used the German No.4, it seems to bring up the aiming point automatically. Been very pleased on deer and eleys.
