Does anyone own and shoot one of these double rifles in 9.3x74r? If so what do you think of them? Do they have rebounding hammers? Ejectors or extractors? Are they of good quality? Last but not least would you take one to Africa as a DG rifle?

Yes I own one in that caliber. It has rebounding hammers and extractors. The rifle is quite accurate with 2.5" groups at 100 yards. With a 286 grain solids or softs depending upon your target I would use it in Africa for DG if legal. It is as effective in the real world as a 375 H&H when applied at less than 150 yards.

These are not best quality british rifles but for the money they are one hell of a deal. They are damned strong to.

Paleo,

Are you referring to the double that Cabela's sells?

I wonder who makes them for them? Anyone out there know?

I believe Pedersoli made their double barrelled ( 50-54 and 72 caliber) black Powder rifles.

The Kodiak Mk IV is sold by Cabela's and is manufactured by Davide Pedersoli of Italy.

Todd is absolutely correct in his statement above. However, the Cabela's rifle is the standard grade, and from Pedersoli you can get the delux grade. The Kodiak MK IV was commisioned oreginally by Col. Michael Powasnick, owner of Trail Guns Armory, of League City, Texas, back in 1987. In Feb.1988 issue of Guns&Ammo Phil Spangenberger did an artical about the rifle, which, at thet time, they thought the retail price would be $900,very optimistic at best! The day my issue of G&A came I called Mike at TGA, and was told they had already found out they could not sell this rifle for the $900 stated in the article, but if I would get him a $100 deposit by March first, he would let me have one for the $900 price tag! I placed an order there and then, and did not recieve my rifle till Feb of 1989, sereal No 134. The Kodiak MK IV is a direct copy of the 1878 Colt double rifle. Powasnick also commisioned the muzzle loader Kodiak four or five years prior.

When Powasnick died, TGA was liquidated, and nobody imported the Kodiak Mk IV for about five years. Then Cabela's picked it up. These are well made rifles, and I have two of them, and both shoot very well. One of mine is stock 45-70, and the other has been re-chambered to 458 RCBS. I lucked out and the re-chamber job still regulated perfectly. This will not always happen with a re-chamber job on a double rifle.

PWN375, has one that came from Pedersoli, and it is the upgrade version. The finish is absolutely perfect on his rifle. We went on a hog hunt March 1,2,and 3 with our doubles, and Perry's Pedersoli shoots good enough he killed a running coyote, and a pig with it in short order. Look at Rusty's post, and link to "HOG WILD", on hunt America posted here. Perry's is a 45-70 also, and I have not shot one in 9.3X74R, my guess is though, it will shoot as well, or better than the 45-70.
