Hello everyone,

Here are some pictures of Jimmy taken earlier this evening, and a few from a few weeks ago. As can be seen, he is thriving.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Great photos!

I don't think I would want to foot Jimmy's feed bill, given his growth rate!

Thanks for posting these.

reddy,

Jimmy spends the vast majority of his time in the bush now. Close to HQ on the Turgwe River. He comes to visit only very occasionally with up to a month between visits. His attitude towards humans when he is in the bush is just that of a wild rhino - he hits the road or the humans do! It is quite weird - he seems to know that he should not befriend humans when out there. He is gradually becoming a wild rhino, as it should be. Nobody has contact with him without a barrier between except Anne. And even Anne is beginning to keep him at a distance. It is all working out fine. Roger says that a mother rhino with a female calf of almost two ears (weaning age) has moved into the area. Hopefully Jimmy's tale will end in the best possible way - we are hoping that, once weaned, the female calf walks straight into our Jim...

mrlexma,

Anne feeds Jimmy very little now, just enough for him to pay the odd visit, so that we know he is okay. Less and less grub for him here as time passes. There is plenty of food for him in the bush now. He loves the fresh, green grass - bang goes the browser theory!

Excellent work, David. Here's hoping for the best for Jimmy and the neighborhood females, when the time is right, of course! Wink

Cindy,

Yes, 2 1/2+ now. I guess he was born late February, 2007. We found him early April and estimated his age to be 6 weeks then.

Jimmy has decided to hang around for a while - here are some more pictures from this evening. Whatdo you think of my advertising bit with the first 2 pictures? Think I could rustle up a sponsor for the borderline walk? One of the coffee kings perhaps ? ha ha ha

Feeling drowzy?

Ricoffy lifts you - anywhere, any time, anyone!!

Anne is used to kissing grizzly guys...The only question is who is the more grizzled - Roger or Jimmy? Yikes, better watch myself eh? On a public forum and all...

Cheers David

I'm new here so don't know all the background on Jimmy, but this is one of the neatest things I've seen. It's always interesting to see and read about how people in other parts of the world live and things they see in their lives. Obviously, this would never happen in Tennessee!

It's good to see Jimmy doing so well and acclimating to the wild. Give my best to Roger, Anne and Pete Wood and tell them that I hope to see them soon.
