We love him here on AR too. He has to be a great sport to endure the ribbing he takes here!

Rollerblads on a treadmill? It's a wonder the man is still alive and has lived this long...and you let him handle guns!

Saeed,

Walter is priceless..... Who in their right mind would even think of the things he he does?

I can't tell you all the laughs I get from watching your African hunting DVDs. The mix of a Safari contrasted with.... one of natures most unique persons. Smiler

If the Dubai Gang ever make it to an SCI convention it will be an outting NOT to be missed.

One of my favorite Walter projects was the stock making thread you posted not so long ago. Perhaps it is time for an update on his walnut masterpieces? Smiler Has he applied for Guild membership yet?

Best Regards,
Dave

I have been a bit busy, so did not allow him to mess about with that machine without having supervision.

He does enough damage when I leave him for a few minutes in the workshop. I would hate to think what he might do if he had free access!

I have a number of rifles here in bits and pieces - just because Walter wanted to "fix" them. Most of the time he manages to either break something, or loose something.

Sadly, his reputation is such that others in the workshop tend to "help" him in this regard.

This sort of assisstance normally takes the form of people swapping parts that look alike, but not exactly the same as the original.

What then happens is Walter tries to install the part, and as it won't fit, he tries his best to make it fit.

Of course, disaster inssues then, as you have seen his workmanship with that stock.

He was teaching one of the kids here how to cut a thread on the lathe.

He had a piece of steel, and was happily cutting a thread on it. I noticed that he had a Sako action on the bench, so I asked him if that thread was supposed to fit in the Sako action.

Walter "Of course it is! Why do you think I am putting a thread on it for then!"

Me "It won't work then"
Walter "Of course it will. Just mind your own business and leave us alone"

Me "I can assure you that thing is not going to fit in that Sako action. You are cutting the wrong thread pitch!"

Walter "AH! I must have forgotten to change the dials. As usual, it is your fault. You used the lathe before and had on the WRONG pitch! I will change it right now"

I left them to it, and went next door to continue making bullets on our CNC lathe. We have an opening between the two workshop, so I can hear them talking.

Eventually the thread was cut, and our genius and his student were busy threading that into the Sako action.

Apparently, they were having some difficulties, and I heard the word "hammer" being mentioned.

I thought I better go find out why they need a hammer for.

Just as well I did. The thread was cut in such a way that it went in about a quarter of the way, and stopped. There intention was to put the action and part barrel into a vice each, and hammer them to fit.

I took the action away from them.

Walter "Hey hey what are you doing?"
Me "You are NOT going to mess up my action"

Walter "We are NOT going to mess up YOUR action. The thread is a bit tight, that is all"

Me "Yes, I can see that it is tight. It is so tight it will end up self locking for ever!"

Walter, talking to his student "You see what I tell you? He is just jealous. Because he is incapable of making self locking barrels, he gets upset when I make one"

I understand now why he wanted those of this dead animal for transplant. Wink

I made the mistake of telling him that I was going to call Alan Vincent in Tanzania.

He send me the following link air conditioner

He said I am to ask Alan to provide these in every tent!

Think Safari tent use is excluded in the fine print????

Maybe you should take him on a Caribou hunt in North Alaska? You'll feel at home Saeed, there are no trees and oil wells everywhere!!

Of course, then you will have to insulate the tent to get it to work. And to avoid condensation issues with firearms or ammunition (or for dripping on Walter for that matter), he will need some sort of additional dehumidifier, which will increase the heat level. So he may need more than one unit per tent.

Or, just hose him down after he falls asleep and let evaporative cooling do its thing! I somehow believe there will be no shortage of volunteers to insure he stays "damp" through the night.
