I had mentioned a recommendation for a good leopard man in a previous thread. Rather than hijack that thread, and in response to an inquiry from Silent T, I will post further information.

I can recommend Johan Pieterse. I emailed him for his details, and after three emails, he reluctantly told me his experience with leopard..

His reply is below.

I have hunted with him 5 times.

He is the only PH I have hunted with that actually does all tracking himself. He does not use/rely on his black staff- he does it himself. His bush skills are excellent.


I will always remember a stalk where we crept - belly crawled to within 10 feet of feeding kudu and just observed them for a long time- no shooters.

He is extremely hard working and painfully honest.

He does use a booking agent- ihe is very busy, and does not advertize or post on the internet. He does go to SCI and the shows, but most of his biz, I believe comes from the shows and referrals.

I just recommend using an experienced PH for cats, as things can go wrong quickly.

You can literally go through his photo books and see cat after cat, lion after lion (in Tanzania) etc.

"That's one hell of a brag answer that you want. I always answer that question as yes I have hunted 2 or 3 cats before.
Seriously I do not know the exact figure but it is more than 50 spotted cats with clients. Included in this figure are 5 I hunted myself and 5 more I had to kill as they were caught in traps.
I have captured and relocated probably around 30 leopard as a game warden.
Of all the leopard hunted only 3 tried to scratch me and I lost two wounded cats before. No clients of mine has been injured by dangerous game. Came close sometimes.
In the beginning you like to keep all of these statistics but I prefer to forget them."
