Gents: After my South Africa hunt I would like to visit Zim for a couple of weeks and see old friends. Two questions: 1. Is it possible to visit Zimbabwe with a rifle or two if not hunting, and if so, the process? Of course, I won't have an invitation letter or a hunt contract. 2. If not possible I could purchase a short plains game hunt to be legal. Whatever I do I want to get it all correct before I travel. I do not want to show up in Harare and be told, "No!" Numerous emails and phone calls to the Zim. embassy are not replied to. Your assistance and suggestions are, as always, appreciated. Cal, I'm not sure, because if you came in cold you would be dealing with the airport staff on arrival and they can be arbitrary. I take it storing them in SA is not an option for you? I can recommend folks for that. Let me ask around because we can probably get your import permits sorted out before you arrive and then it's no hassle.

Cal, I had this issue a few years back. I was staying at the Afton guest house and they stored my rifles in their vault until I got back to Jo'burg for my departure home.

Thanks, gents. I will depart Harare to Dubai so won't return to SA os keeping the guns there is not an option. ljl: probably the best route is to get permits in advance. Can you give me an idea of the process? Cheers, all. It was a while back, but I recall talking about possibly shooting an IPSC match as part of a trip to Zim and getting a handgun certified for a match was possible. If your friends there are part of a gun club, I would think setting up a simple “big bore shoot” and getting a letter to that effect would work. Honestly though, a short day trip for plains game resolves your issues, so get that planned, shoot an impala or warthog and have a braai for your friends...

Cal, I sympathize with you. I'm going to Botswana and I don't have a solution to who can store my guns in Maun while I'm traveling around.
