The wife and I were cruising up I95 in central Florida last year and coulda swore that we saw a buff standing on the side of the road. Drove past again and, yup, cape buff! Blew my mind! There was a bison, a cape buff, a few shetland ponies, and a cow or two. They were in a small paddock in a sherrif's compound right off the interstate.

I was on my way to a "charity" hunting trip in West Georgia with a safari hunting buddy of mine when a frapping Zebra walked across the road. I slammed on brakes to avoid the sucker and it calmly cruised into the bushes and disappeared. It was the classic "turn towards each other with dropped jaws and a long... "Naaaawwwwh!".
Later, on the way back, we saw the Zebra in a paddock about 1/4 mile from where we almost hit the sucker. I guess it just had gotten lose. It surely made us feel a little better when we saw the darn thing. Both of us were wondering if we'd lost our minds. How the farmer got the sucker, I'll never know, but I'll bet it is the only Zebra between the Jacksonville and Atlanta zoos.
As an aside...
About the "charity" hunt...
A small, private school in Southwest Georgia decided it needed to raise money to build a gym. The school's supporters and parents solicited donations from locals in the way of "hunts". The donors agreed to take hunters onto their property for 2 morning and evening hunts in return for a monetary donation from the hunters to the school's building fund. The local area, being rural, and full of deer, was a perfect place for the hunt. About 50 farmers/landowners/leaseholders generously donated their time and guiding efforts to help the cause. Hunters had access to camping or stayed in motels. Great meals were served at the school cafeteria with a bar-b-que banquet and awards were the agenda for the last evening. Hunters paid $400 for the two day hunt. There were raffles and auctions both nights. What a great idea to raise money and provide reasonable hunting opportunities (and a way to meet some great people). I'll bet a big pile of money that a school in the big buck area of Indiana or Iowa could raise a bunch using this idea..... and if anyone decides to do it, let me know when you are ready!

When I was a kid riding along in one of our family's log trucks (cheaper than a babysitter) I was awakened from my slumbers by a loud "holy shit!) I woke to see a cow elephant jogging briskly across a big field with calf struggling to keep up. A mile further down the road we came up on a couple of circus tents, which went a long way towards explaining things.
