In an effort to show the many positive faces and contributions of our sport, here is another short film we produced with DSC that I believe you will all relate to. Enjoy!

Well done Dave. There is no denying that some of the most enduring friendships in our lives have been formed around campfires and on shared hunts.

Well..............

Watched it a few times. In the end I have to say I side with the a bit too gay side. Just a bit....
I mean it really involves who is viewing it and their psyche. Other than that it was a good short punch to the kidneys, but where is it being viewed?

The hunting channel? Outdoors Channel? If it is in the mainstream media then it may be good...... if preaching to us. Not. Just wondering, as obviously I do not know up here in the sticks and barely get cell service. Smiler

Now that's a far better video. Good emphasis on the hunt for food aspect of what we do. No whoops of joy and man hugs - more respect and camaraderie.
Very well done.
Thanks for posting the link.

This is serious conservation and food gathering business; there should be no celebrations, excitement or happiness shown in photos. We need to stop the public from thinking we actually enjoy hunting [sarcasm].

Congratulations sir! In my opinion, that is the type of film that should be offered to the public if they want to know the truth about why hunting is needed if wildlife is to be properly conserved. What this man had to say is the truth, not emotional B.S. the antis spout!

Our film is far from our last word on hunting, it is just one of many we will be doing for DSC covering a wide variety of topics. Trying to capture emotion is, in my mind, a good thing. It was not the " Big Buck Down", "Thats a MacDaddy","I just Shanked that sucker" kind of nonsense, but real emotion from real moments in the field. Sure a tough crowd here, and there are indeed moments when I wonder why I post at all. But I put it out there, and wanted opinions, so will live with the negative comments, and say Thank You to those who appreciated the effort to show that it is ok to actually love the hunt, and feel true emotion during special moments.

With program names like "Deer Thugs" and "Trained Assassins" etc. I am always concerned about the images portrayed of our sport. I apologize to no one, but certainly think we could do a better job of policing our own ranks than just handing them ammunition. I personally appreciate the (very different) themes of both videos.

Donnie is the real deal and 100% dedicated to the hunt.
He is the type of hunting ambassador we need more of.
With the abundance of glory boy, razor dobbs type characters trying to "assasinate" game, we can only look bad.

Anyway, each to their own, but there are fewer and fewer hunting shows that have anything to do with what I believe hunting has always been about.
Call me old fashioned, but my mentors would have cracked half of these TV personalities on the side of the head and told them to stop fucking around and get back to hunting.

Times have changed

Larry, of course DSC has it on their social media, as do we, but we are asking members, and hunters to post and share it on their own Facebook, and other social media platforms where this, and the other pro hunting and conservation short films will be seen by those folks who still have an open mind as to the place of the hunter \ conservationist in our society. If I thought MSNBC or the View would give us the airtime, I would provide them anything we produce. Social media, if shared and worked, reaches the masses FAST. CECIL proved that! Just trying to show us a humans, not just hunters.

Well done Dave.

As a suggestion, incorporate more focus on the hunter's genuine respect and admiration for the animal taken (and not the big buck down bullshit) following footage of the effort required to take the animal.

Several years ago I declared I could see no reason to hunt an elephant and I won't engage in it, but I decided to study it nonetheless. Once I learned more about the effort required (especially in the valley), the conservation imperative, and the emotions it invokes, I changed my mind and have never looked back. During my "study" of it, I recall a segment where Ivan Carter pulled the trackers and others away and left the client alone with his elephant. Ivan said something along the lines of "I like to allow the client a moment alone with their elephant, and when we return there's seldom a dry eye".

Its the genuine love of the pursuit and the quarry that appealed to me, and probably does for many others.

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark

For the hunters we all are, the film is fine. However, one of the critical comments I hear often is about the good old boys in camo cheering, yelling, and high-fiving over dead animals. Hearing this as often as I have, I wonder if a film such as this will be well received by the non hunting public. For us, it is preaching to the choir. But, there are far more of "them" than "us" out there. I don't know if this is good PR.

Dave,

Another great piece of film and very well edited. I just thought it a bit twee and you got my comment. Please note that if you entice comment then expect a response from many of the varied and quirky characters that make this such an interesting site.

As Cal stated I doubt that it would receive any merits outside of our circle.

Extremely well done, but too long in this sound-bite era and too much talk.

Agreed that most non-hunters are not going to understand the hugging and congratulations, although it's not "gay" (methinks she doth protest too much), there is too much back slapping like a football game on many tv shows.

I think Dave's group is on the right track with not trying to explain it verbally and keeping the actual tools of the kill (rifle, arrows) out of the shot for now.

Mr. Fulson, I hope you don't stop sharing your experiences with us.

The video, while showing a side of male behavior that our homophobic society, world wide, does not like to admit too, there is nothing wrong or sexual for two men to hug each other at the end of a successful hunt.

Like so many other aspects of our worlds society, at least in the Western world, a couple of generations of men are going to have to die off, before the concepts of men hugging and/or showing a form of affection for each other in sharing a moment such as the successful culmination of a hunt, is NOT homosexual in any way.

In some aspects on some issues, many of us have a lot of growing to do.

Keep up the good work you do.

I think at 65 I have pretty well grown up.

I really do not see how two men hugging each other at the end of a successful hunt is ANY different than professional athletes hugging each other after making a score in a game or at the end of a game their team won.

I guess you feel it is wrong for two men to embrace each other at the funeral of a relative or close friend?

Well done video, and most welcome. Have shared it with my family members with whom I have hunted and hugged for decades. Definitely helps you remember the feel of hunting with family and friends. Nothing else is close to that, and this video reminds us why we are passionate about hunting.

Good on ya', Dave. And DSC. See you there in January.
