Just got off the phone with Vaughan. He has 1 Elephant and 1 Lion/Leopard available. Lion/Leopard: This hunt is in his Etosha area. There is a big male that has been causing problems and someone needs to sort it out. Success should be pretty good, but they are Lions ... so ... let's face it. Either it is 100% or 0%. Details: When: ASAP Where: Vaughan's Communal Conservancy by Etosha Price: $600/day + 15% VAT Trophy Fee on Lion: $6500 How many days: At least 10, more if you can do it. Once the Lion is taken care of, you can hunt Leopard for the trophy fee ($2000) only. Elephant: When: 14-30 September (16-day hunt) Where: Caprivi Price: $23,000 includes trophy fee on Elephant, daily rate, VAT and transfer of trophy to Windhoek. (Normal price $30,100) Other fees: $550 commercial flight from Windhoek into the Caprivi. Hotel room in Windhoek on nights either side of the hunt. Trophy expectation on this hunt is very good. For someone who can walk, and hunt, and wants to be picky, this is a very good hunt. He has shot 2 this year. one was 58lb and the other was 60lb. I believe a 50lb and up Elephant is a reasonable expectation with odds of getting one bigger. These dates are very good, this is a good time to hunt. Since I will be leaving soon, anyone who is interested should call or e-mail Vaughan about the hunt. From the US dial: 011 264 6123 5304 vfulton@africaonline.com.na

Darn it Wendell, just whan I was almost having a productive day at the office, you go and post this! Even at 12 or 14 days, that would be the cheapest lion hunt in Africa ($2000/day versus $600!!!). I've got other plans brewing, but these are some great deals if anybody can go on short notice.

Anyone who goes on the Lion hunt can shoot a Leopard once the Lion is taken care of. Leopard trophy fee $2000. (Post edited above to reflect this)

I just started talking to my wife about going back to Africa in 2007, and she is pretty supportive, but I don't think I can swing this one.

For anyone who can jump on this, let me assure you that hunting with Vaughan is a great experience and you will not regret it. He does it the right way. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.

Wendell, you would post this, based on the fact I'm in the middle of a divorce.........and how much money I give her is the question of the day..........wonder what the judge would say if I said spend some of the money on a lion hunt On a serious note, that a good deal and if things were not so sideways I'd be a player. Somebody should jump on that deal, I'd bet on the come and hunt lion and bait for Leopard, somebody jump on this before I open a bottle of wine. Billy, High in the shoulder (we band of bubbas)

I don't think Mrlexma's Lion could be used as a reasonable expectation. That one is going to be hard to top.

According to Vaughan's website, the area is about six hours from Windhoek. In my experience it can take a bit longer from the airport. It would depend on exactly where in the area you were going.

If you make Vaughan's camp in six hrs, you will have been airborne. It took us, well lets see we left Vaughan's house about 2:30 in the afternoon and spent the night in Otjiwarongo stopping about 7:00 and arrived in camp after noon the next day and we got a relative early start about 7:00 AM. The return trip took all day from camp to Windhoek. Hows that for 6 hrs.

Hey Wendell, Any chance of leaving that poor old lion alone until I get over there in May? ____________________________________________ "Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." Terry Pratchett.
