Has anyone used the Nosler ammunition , i was at there site and they advertise with a 400 nosler partion bullet 2530 fps in there .416 Ribgy ammunition I tell you i have been saving up for a 458Lott to use in Alaska and maybe someday in Africa but i am reading alot of good things about the 416 rigby with the 400 grain bullets, this Rigby is getting tempting

The .416 Rigby in a reliable, controlled round feed rifle is an excellent choice for a laypersons "heavy" rifle. When mated with Nosler partitions, the "sacrificial" lead tip really does lots of damage to soft tissue, while the base most always stays intact to insure sufficient penetration. I can think of no better combination for large bears in Alaska (except most rifles/scopes in that caliber will weigh over 9 pounds). BTW, I'd use a stouter bullet than the Nosler when hunting DG in Africa. North Forks, A-Frames and TSX come to mind. I say all the above, but don't get "velocity" fever. With it comes recoil and lots of folks who can shoot a .416 at 2400 f.p.s. find much more speed a trade not worth making. The .416 Rigby, the .404 Jeffery, the .375 H&H and so on are almost ancient... but they were done right when they were birthed! Tanoose The Judge's experience parallels mine. I had a Kimber safai rifle in 416 Rigby. Even with a total gun weight of 10.5 lb. my load at 2560 fps with a 400 SAF was pretty uncomfortable to shoot. I much prefer the 458 WM in a 9 lb. rifle. BTW the bullets from the 458WM don't bounce off elephant or buffalo eventhough the case is too short etc. Regards, Mark MARK H. JudgeG, I noticed you said you would use a stouter bullet than the Nosler partition for DG. I have used them for tons of game excpet DG and had great results. Since I usually plan on using them, and I am going to Zambia next year to hunt buffalo, what can you share with me that would make me reconsider their use? I am open to any suggestions on bullet. I shoot a .375 Rob

Nosler Partitions, 375 H&H, Buffalo I thought you might like to read this discussion. None of it represents my opinion (don't have a .375, haven't hunted buffalo), and if I get to go buffalo hunting I would probably opt for a North Fork bullet, but it might be helpful to you.

I have shot a lot of buffalo with the 400 gr. Nosler and it is one of the finest buffalo bullets that I have ever used..it penetrates like hell in .416 caliber and opens up to the more forward than most partitions, usually looses its core and when you recover one on ocassion it will look almost exactly lik a barnes x fully expanded... Obviously some are making predictions and remarks when they have not used this bullet on Buffalo and are just bloviating improperly!! Send me an email and I will send you some pictures of .416 Noslers taken fron Buffalo, but I have posted these previously on AR in the past.... IMO, they are much better than the Swifts or Barnes X bullets and maybe a bit better than Woodleighs, and about equal to Northforks in killing effect but they have more penetration than all the above, but are not as good as the Northfork cup points...IMO. I will add to the above that my post only applies to the .416 caliber Nosler...It is a bit tougher/thicker than most of the Noslers I have used in other calibers, the jacket is thicker and the front portion never blows off but curls back to .500 to .600 cross section on everyone I have recovered... Rob; The Noslr Partition in 375 is a very good bullet. While the other bullets listed here are also superb, if your rifle shoots the Partitions, I'd go ahead and use them. jorge USN (ret) DRSS Verney-Carron 450NE Cogswell & Harrison 375 Fl NE Sabatti Big Five 375 FL Magnum NE DSC Life Member NRA Life Member

I have used, like a lot of people I assume, the 300 grain Nosler Partitions in the the 375 H&H but never recovered a bullet in any plains game (biggest were Kudu and Wildebeest) as they all exited. I load my 416 Rigby to 2300 fps with 400 grain bullets and I can handle to the recoil and don't think there is much to be gained by going to 2500 fps with a Nosler Partition or Swift A-Frame. Haven't clocked one yet but I believe the Norma .416 Rigby ammo with A-Frames is also around 2300 fps. _________________________________ AR, where the hopeless, hysterical hypochondriacs of history become the nattering nabobs of negativisim.
