Ron Oliver of Zimbabwe Wildlife Safaris relayed a message to me that Wayne had been hit hard by a Buffalo last week. He was beat up badly and air-vacked to South Africa. Ron spoke with his wife and she said he has four new holes in him and it will be a long recovery, she also said his tracker saved him by sticking a knife in the Buffalos head.

Sticking a knife in a buffalo's head? Are more details available?

Sorry to hear this and best wishes to Wayne for a full recovery.

It's not a bad idea to teach the trackers how to shoot. On my last safari we taught the trackers how to operate, shoot and reload each of the rifles and let them have a few practice shots.

Here's to a steady and easy recovery for Wayne and good support for his family. Very scarey thing!

I think a toast is in order to the African tracker who stuck a knife into a wounded buffalo to save the life of his boss. That's one of the benefits of treating your people right.

I hope that he fully recovers. It could have been worse with the trackers running for their lives. It pays to treat your people right, as was previously stated.

Yes. Nothing like have trackers, skinners or scouts with you who are cowards. I've done that one, and it just adds another varible to things.

Kudos to the brave tracker! Fending off a angry buff with a rifle with a rifle is one thing, with a knife is an act of bravery and experience. I wouldn't even know where to stick the buff, except through the eye.

Anyone have the details leading up to the accident.

Hope the PH heals fast and gets back in the bush!

Tough break and, as always, I am sure the details, if we can get them, will be educational.

And I too combine my congratulations to a brave man - armed only with a knife! - with my well-wishes for the wounded.
