Will, Your story in the latest _AH_ was great! You have accomplished more than I could ever dream of in this elephant hunting, a dying art to be sure. I like your choice of the 470 NE double. Is yours a Heym? Mine is the Merkel. Last night I punched some foam plugs out for reloading the 470 NE with RL-15. I used a 50 BMG case with the mouth chamfered sharp as a "cookie cutter," and must say this worked well. The "packing foam" I used was the gray stuff of the same consistency as a Doscocil gun case liner, but in a flat sheet 1 and 3/16" thick. The weekend should tell if I get the consistency I want out of this filler. It is certainly an easy method. ------------------

Ron: Yes, I use a Heym .470. It fits great and can shoot it without using sights if in a hurry. I gave up trying to reload .470's. The thin cases are to much trouble, and I lack the patience to mess with it. Will

Will, I think we exchanged e-mails last year in October, prior to my first trip to Africa. I hunted with Ian Gibson of Big 5 Safaris in Zimbabwe and we arrived in camp on October 17th. I think that you were there hunting elephant and left a day or two before my wife and I arrived. I think that everyone in camp mentioned that you did well on your hunt. We had a great trip and Big 5 is a great place to hunt. During my 7 day hunt, I took 10 animals. These included a 41" buffalo and a 56.5" kudu. I am hoping to get back and hunt with Big 5 again soon. Anyway, hope your hunt was indeed great! Tim

That is my first-and-only issue so far, and I'm passing it around to my friends, with specific instructions, "Don't miss the article on the Elephant Hunter". (Will's first hand experience with the most dangerous form of "Mad Cow" disease, which can be fatal in humans.) For those of you who haven't read it, DO NOT read it immediately before going to bed. Actually, if you read it first thing in the morning, you can skip the coffee... Rick.
